Sigma batch is known to have this problems. It is all over the internet. One of the reason I return this lenses.

I love my 35mm f2!:heart::heart::heart::heart::heart:

Don't know if you've seen this yet, but it's a very good comparison. The 30 looks like a winner for me here, but think it's negligible picture quality wise unless you make alot of big prints or pixel peep. Also, the 35 is quite a dated design and the 30 is relatively new.

You never know when you'll need the extra speed or take a nightshot handheld, so it's always good to have. Inevitable that you'll get some out of focus pics due to the razor-thin DOF at 1.4, but once you get the hang of it, you'll love the 30.

I take my photos at 1.4 90% of the time, and the only time I stop down is when I hit the 1/8000 shuttle limit... :P

You can see some of my photos here. Most of them taken with the 30.

wah sigma catching up.

right now i'm very attracted to the close focusing distance on the nikkor, and also the focus reliability(compared to the sigma). but there are rumors going around of new nikon primes including the 35mm f/1.4 of 1.8

i think i might wait for an announcement and pricing or something and decide from there. Ooooor should i go with the 35/2.

35F2 isnt that expensive on the used market.

if you're in luck you can get a copy for $300-$350

I saw a 30mm all peeled off... actually looks quite cool... the metallic look ;)

I peeled mine all off already! once it starts peeling you can just use fingernail to complete the job. Mine when peeled is a dark grey/gunmetal silver leh

Check Lords @ Lucky Plaza. They quoted me $500 2 weeks ago.

I think it is hard to find in the market liao. Unless you pay a higher price for it.

Went Hong Kong, Wing Shing to enquire about this lens last week (ya, i regret selling it and is thinking of getting a new one back) and the salesman told me it is no longer available at their side.

Hopefully got at AF-S 35mm f1.4 (Full Frame) coming. Hehehe.;p

Cannot say which is better. As I have only used the Sigma which I have to say I really love. I used it for about a year on my D50 (used it as my main lens for nearly everything) and recently changed to the D90. Which brought up an interesting problem, namely, the lens seemed to be front focusing a lot.

I wondered whether it was the D90 or the lens, but when I tried my nikkor 50mm f1.8 and several other lenses, they all appeared to be fine. So I concluded it was the Sigma giving problems (possibly only noticed the problem due to pixel peeping with the extra megapixels on the D90). When I put it on the D50 and looked real close, it seemed like the problem was there too, go figure!

The good thing is when I called Sigma, they simply said bring my lens and my camera to have the lens calibrated. It was FREE !!! I did not even have to bring in any documentation like purchase date or warranty card. NOTHING. Not to mention, I got my lens off Amazon, so in theory it was gray.

Ok, it took a day as their technician was busy, but no complaints. Since then the front focus issue is not longer a problem and the lens is super sharp. I have to say I am VERY IMPRESSED with the customer service. Kudos to them.

If you chose to get the Sigma, make sure you test it on some test charts and if it does front/back focus, get it calibrated to your camera (D300 users can do this on their camera body). It is a very worthwhile exercise, and there really is no excuse not to do it.

Out of curiosity, since I am also considering getting the nikkor 35mm f2 or another Sigma for my sister, has anyone had any experience getting the nikkor calibrated/serviced? Are they always sharp out of the box?

i'm using 35f2...sharp sharp lens, but not idea for bokeh..

wouldn;t shoooting at such high shuttle speed damage your shuttle even more???as in lessen the life span?

Only Nikkor 35mm f2 on my D3

is the 35mm f2 a good choice for the d90 considering the crop factor?
understand tt its sharp at all stops!

Shutter. It doesn't matter because the travelling speed of the curtain at 1/8000 is the same as 1/250. Only difference is that the 2nd curtain starts to close before the first curtain fully opens. Shooting at continuous would speed up the failure though.

I juz bought d sigma lense to use with my D60. Have not tried it yet. Anyone know of any problems with diz setup?
