not too much of an OT, but you see nikon releasing updated versions of DX lenses, thats because they dont fore-see a cheap fullframe to be produced for the masses anytime soon..
You think not too much OT but the Mod might not mah.
Updated version of DX? Which one? How come I missed all of them? Or, you mean those 18-XXX DX zoom? And, this 16-XXX DX zoom?
If I think along this line, maybe the 10.5FE and the 17-55 are the only DX version to replace the older lens. Sorry, not even replace but to coexist incase FF come back.
Canon hasnt ditched their 1.6x crop either. other 4/3 mounts are happy with their 2x crop.
Only the more serious hobbyists and the workhorses will look for something towards full-frame. on consumer price/value/performance wise, the 1.5X DX crop isnt probably going to phase out anytime.
C is not ditching becos N can't catch up. And, they give customer a choice to choose.

4/3 is different becos to them 4/3 is FF.
I know DX is not going to be phased out soon but didn't N tell us that there will not be FF for DSLR not too long ago. Man, I am glad that they "misrepresent" this info. Else, only way for FF is C.
look at many people happily touting the d2/300s, the d80s and the d40s.. convert all of them to fullframe and to make them buy a body at $3.9k (just a speculation) each? probably highly unlikely. .
Not all of them but some of them. Now, do we even have a choice beside 7K D3?
Maybe someone will ask me to buy a Kodak DSLR or use back film.
I am voicing my opinion so that people will think like me will know there is someone out there that have similar thinking as them. Maybe, just maybe if out voices are strong enough, N will listen.

I really hate to air these views. Make me look like an anit-nikon guy which I am not.
