night time autofocus problem

sony has more noise issues than nikon so gd luck then.
actually if you post this in the canon section...i get that feeling that they gonna say something along the lines that you dont understand your cam well enough.
did you up your canon iso settings to 400 or 800 ???

i dont care about the general resale market...to me most importantly is all-round use and user-friendly cam...
if you want faster focusing, you can try the d80 with 50mm f1.8, go loan one set to test first for 1 or 2 days before buying.
or maybe loaning a cheaper set like d50 (may have slower focusing than d80) with 50mm f1.8 also allows you more options as well.

Ya true. Like what most say: a gd photographer is one who knows how to make full use of his cam knowing its limitations. But feel kinda strange when the cam cant AF properly in normal indoor lighting conditions when my previous D60 can do so effortlessly. Both in auto mode with AF assist off some more. ISO I set to max doesnt help at all.

Now me researching on D80 but seems got rumours that D90 is coming out soon in Sep so u might want to wait a bit more if u thinking get a D80. In terms of user friendliness wise (for normal P&S users upgrading), Sony seems to score quite high in this aspect. Or how about Fuji S100FS? 1 lens chiong all the way ;)

i wouldnt care about the d90 though, cos may come in higher MP count.
unless nikon make a d300 in d80 body then i straight away go buy but i dont think they will...
if i ever need lens motor, then d50 would be a gd choice but no grid lines to check alighment.

as for the fuji compact, i already got a fz5 to do the all-round lens job...

i used AF mode. set the ISO to max 1600. Max aperture too. I guess the lens is not good enough for night shoot.

hmmm...not true..

u must know HOW to find a place for it to focus..

this is pretty dark too..the kit lens hunted and hunted. Need to find place where it has more contrast to focus lor..

I am using D70 18-55mm kit lens, i was trying to take this row of nice lights that was changing colours at Kallang Leisure Park. But i dunno what settings i should use because this is rather low lit area besides those lamps. Any idea what i should do? Perhaps it was because i dont have a tripod. was holding with my hands and the slow shutter speed caused this. I was trying to force the shutter to flick immediately but can't.

Here's with flash fired.

perhaps you can use the 1/focal length to determine what shutter speed to set.

the 18-70mm seriously need tripod when it comes to night time shooting.
have tried shooting with the 18-55mm II-ED and 18-55mm vr at night and i find that their default shutter speeds under A/P mode is faster than the 18-70mm even though the 18-70mm is supposes to be 1 f-stop faster.
