Night macro with improved diffuser

it seems like exposure on the subjects is ok with nice diffused lighting. its the background and the spread of the lighting that is making the overall pic look under. are these taken in the day? can try to balance the flash and ambient lightings to expose more of the background to bring out more details on the subjects as well :)

They were taken at night in complete darkness. ;)

very nice shots, I like it.

I have to agree here. I feel the fill in light is lacking thus making the overall picture very dark.

You may want to increase the exposure in whatever software you are using. A slight exposure increment in the main subject may look better

Point taken. will try that next time. Thanks! :)

These are great. I'm just starting with macro but it's a steep learning curve. I've been using a 550EX off-camera triggered with an ST-E2. The only diffuser I've used is the one built into the flash but the lighting is still too harsh. I have umbrellas but they are too big for this kind of close work. Can you give details of your home-made diffuser?

Your shot has great details and is very upclose. I am a macro beginner too. I got some lighting ideas from the link below:

Check out his shots, truely amzing.
My diffuser is just a foam paper. I used that to wrap up my 430EX.
Hope that helps. :)
