Olympus have just announced the C-7070 here - with a 27-110mm lens and a new underwater housing, might be worth considering when it becomes available.

I agree AA batteries give alot of conveniences, but comparing C-750 and C-5060, the lithium ion batteries beat AA hands down in terms of performance and long lasting. I can do atleast 5 dive without replacing batteries for my C-5060 and need to replace battery after 3rd dive for my C-750 using AA batteries.

I'm wondering what I am going to do with my XX sets of AA NimH......my strobes use them, my cam use them, my X-Drive uses them, my speakers use them.....wait this 7070 does not use them. Poor thing, she will feel left out.

and I'll have to carry additional charger and an additional battery for her. Too high maintainence, better don't start a relationship u cannot afford.

Think users of 5060 will testify that the lithium battery life is actually very good so the 7070 shld be as good if not better.

Any users of 5050/5060 want to compare the specs of the 7070 and give us forumers the "pros & cons" of the 7070? :)

haven't i just stated the Pros and Con of the 7070? If the CCD is the same as the E300, judging by the aquarium shots posted by someone, output pre-process very nice.

One more con, the lens not as fast. only f2.8 as compared to f1.8

and also the biggest con: have to sell current setup to buy new one. :bsmilie:

besides camera... we still have a LOT of things to buy .... :sweatsm:

u haven't buy huh? if u have just a camera and housing, when repalcing it, u have to buy everything lor, since u have ntg to begin with to carry over.

better this way, choice not hampered by what u already have.

but how long u wanna take before getting a strobe? been hearing about it eons ago.

Eric,
This part I still very confuse. Let say I agree that f1.8 is faster than f2.8 or even f4. But when we take pictures, assuming we only use F5.6 and above. Will this affect the lense speed still?

by allowing more light to pass thru * I think*

Maybe a more tech person can help answer this. I never shoot my macro at f2.8, yet I pay premium for f2.8 lens. Why? My guess is that the lens allow more light to pass thru, thus faster focusing, but that's my wild guess.

Hi, your wild guess is quite accurate. The focusing function of most AF lenses is based on colour contrast. With more light entering (f2.8), the colour contrast is more obvious and focusing on the subject is much faster.

However, when the aperture is large (f2.8), the depth of field is very shallow, hence when we shoot macro, we use f22-f40 to increase the depth of field. We make up for the small amt of light through the use of strobes.

I pay a premium for lenses with large apertures when I need to shoot in situations with low light where I do not use any flash.
