The housing is so massive!!!!

with the 300D going at $1500+ brand new with the Lexar Pro 1gb CF thrown in (allan photo), must as well house the DSLR. think second hand ikelite housing quite readily avail too as people upgrade to 20D in the USA.

Goondoo and Siao eh, open ur eyes big big hor. u know where to look.

Where? Where? Where? :D

No leh.. i tried on harvey norman a couple of months ago leh. Found that the time to achieve focus lock is longer than the C5060. (My friend was focusing on the same subject as i was.
 now you've got me confused

The one I tried was the 1st generation C8080... really fast... tried because that day happens to have Jolin in Funan Centre, and the batteries happens to be partial charged only.

PS: Tried with the memory card

Hmmm think i'll be heading down to the nearest Harvey Norman to try again....
Or i'm really getting old

for digital, u don't get TTL unless u use a FL20 with 5060, digital TTL sensor or have your housing mod for the Oly TTL in Ikelite housing for Ikelite digital strobes.

hence for the rest of Olys, Canons, Sony, Nikons, the strobes are on manual, triggered via optic fibre cables.

Just persuaded a friend to get the Fuji F810 as he uses it for land pics only. The price is $799 at South East Asia in Funan, plus additional battery thrown in. I am eyeing to buy it at 20% discount 2 months down the road.

The E550 is almost the same as the F810, except it uses AA batteries  , USB 1.1 :thumbsd: and made of plastic :dunno: . But at the same price, the cool factor of the F810 wins over. Kng, video is vga at 30fps for both cams.....

Sounds like the Kng have a new toy soon :D

btw, i would prefer a plastic, at the very least its lighter

So the situation is that there's lack of true-ttl compatible strobes in the market, rather than shooting with manual strobe setting as the preferred way to go.

Have shot quite a bit using the 5060, with either housed FL20 or a slave manual external strobe. Much prefer to shoot with the FL20, and use it within its capability.

QUOTE]

Think the olym 8080 housing is a poor design, the sheer size is more to impress non-photo taking leisure divers only. It occured to me as an impressive housing on first look, but soon realized there are many flaws.

First the compartment for the internal strobe is of no use, than the massive lens port built without a dome front element is without a good purpose. And of course, most asians dont have such big grip to hold such a thick housing.

It's a pity, think the designer don't really know uw photography well enough.

In technology point of view, there is no uncrackable code, its more of the legal issues that hinder the researches. I believe many other manufacturers are waiting to see if the Digital Adapter guy will get sue if he really manage to crack the TTL code. Which is one main thing I hate about Oly, they refuse to share their codes with 3rd party which make all their accessories so expensive. grrr...

hi guys.. thanks for the suggestions...

hmm.. with the mount option from inon, think u can use both M67 or AD mount adaptor for any camera since there no direct connection to the housing.. so shld be able to reuse yr lens shld u switch from olympus to canon or other housings w/o threading...
i nvr look or tested it b4.. so anyone can confirm this?

hopefully i'm free enuff to compile a direct comparison between

A70, S70, A95, C5050, C5060, F810...

ok, back to next camera after 5050..
why don't u think the a95 compares?

Back to the topic,

From my friend who was using a A75 last trip to lembeh, he did share with me that the internal flash of the A75 only had 3 power setting, whereas the OLY C series has about 2 stops worth of flash exposure compensation.

Which might be a considering factor for those who prefer just to use internal strobes only.

My friend often find the flash exposure unpredictable, and similar scenes would some times overexpose and at time underexpose.

He finds that it is not like the OLY internal flash where the success rate of macro (flash) exposure would normally yield a success rate of about 80%(?)

This is my personal findings, please feel free to chip in.

cheers

Funny, the DDnet divers are all raving about F810 as the next 5050.
But the no CF and batt life really turns me off.

The 8080 is a no no for me, IMHO.
it's focusing u/w is much slower, which is very impt to me.

You're right, why doesn't it compare....??? Anyone?

For my friend's A75, the macro mode went as close as mind did to subjects. Wide angles? What are the lenses it could accomodate? If i'm not wrong the A95 could be fitted with the INON AD Mount and with a UWL135(?)(165?) semi fish eye lense.

Which will make it quite formidable.

Not sure if it could be fitted with the AD-mount, if so then it could also use INON UCL165 lenses for Macro.

One thing i'd look for in a Digicam would be these accessories actually. Would be a shame if i had to change a camera when i felt like venturing into Wide Angles or Vice Versa for Macro.

Any other comments? Anyone can confirm the AD mount thingy?

AD mount not using UCL165, it's using UCL165AD, which is only 1.4x,
and if I am right, not stackable.

But the dome AD lens is wider, 165 degrees compared to 131 degrees 67mm.

they prob don't feel replacing the card and battery after every dive a chore. Even if u use a 1 gb CF but when u shoot RAW, you'd have to replace card almost after every dive as well. So since u are opening teh housing, might as well replace the battery.

Of course there is the moola issue but i am sure the supporters of F810 can find some over-riding factors for that

Why hasn't anyone suggested an upgrade to an DSLR? The shops here are retailing the Olympus E300 for less than the 8080 at RM3,599.00 inclusive of lenses! Plus, it comes with their generic housing too, so price is definitely lower than if you buy a custom-made one. :)

siao-on, first sell off the 5050 to beivied or lovells for backup

teeheehee
