NEX-5 Firmware Upgrade Version 02

The firmware supports very limited OS... I tried Win XP sp2, Win 7 starter, both are 32 bits and not working.
I will try Win 7 64 bits tonight...

mine even worse.. im on MAC.. totally not supported.. had to do it at work haha

That's only if the battery is removed from the body. If it's within the body, then the body can continue to drain the battery. This has nothing to do with the "quality of the lithium cell".

Please educate yourself, your assumptions/beliefs are wrong.

Please educate me. Other than charging the built in rechargeble batt inside the camera, what other part of the camera is sipping power, when in off position? The purpose of an on/off switch is to disconnect all electrical path from the power source. You can use more advanced terms no problem as i'm an engineer by profession.

I jolly well know that the ability to hold it's charge when remove from the camera is based on the quality of the cell.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, The only way to know whether your battery is faulty is by comparison with another similar
battery. If I am wrong, you can correct me, but don't be offensive as saying "educate myself"
How do you like it if I say this to you.

Precisely. We are all here to learn something.

Unfortnately I only have one battery. All I can do is to keep the battery out of the camera to isolate if the battery is faulty (discharge itself). Another thing I read is that the Lithium battery is charging the 'built in battery' inside the camera body which holds the time/region settings. The firmware update could have something to do with this part.

Sorry if it is confusing. Think CMOS battery on the PC mother board.

The on/off switch does not disconnect all power from the power source, as you yourself admit in the next post. It cuts off the power to the main components and forces a shutdown of the major circuitry components such as the bionz processor, the display, the sensor, etc, but does not cut off the "standby power" that the camera uses to keep the internal battery charged. Think of it as a pilot light.

The update software is working on Win XP sp2. It was my fault. My yesterday download was corrupted and I didn't know. Just now downloaded again and the software is running update now.

I dislike this method of updating where its so complicated and needed you to connect to the PC. The Pentax way is to copy the file onto your sd card, power on while pressing one button and you can update straight away. I think internal updating is more elegant.
Nonetheless, now checking to see if the firmware will solve the battery issue. :)

Thank goodness for this update! Seems to have really solved the battery drain problem.

Switched off my Nex5 at 2pm yesterday and just turned on to take a look. Only dropped from 93% to 90%. 3% drop for 34hrs, huge improvement!

Finally bought a third-party HDMI cable yesterday for my NEX-5.
Just tried viewing the 3D Panoramic test shot I had taken after updating the firmware on my Samsung 3D TV and am pleased to confirm that it works ! Really got 3D effect ! :)

Woot , ay but I ll nvr get a 3D tv untill they become mainstream , so this function going to be rendered useless. Maybe by then , its Nex55 already haha

I purchase the 1st batch during the preview at Sony Style Orchard. Update the firmware and no change on the battery status that remains 93% since Thursday.

The main improvement for me is the camera start-up is faster. Yet to find out the rest of the improvement. Cheers! :)

lets hope the lens/mount adaptor can also be upgraded soon!!

Actually, I don't hope the firmware be updated so often because this implies the camera has serious problem for those released to the commercial market. Just my 2 cents. :)

If you have been following NEX 3/5 discussion, we have already known about the update is coming. Since this was Sony's promised during NEX 3/5 launch date. I suggest, do some search about the main objective of this update, and what was announced during the last PMA by Sony.

Lenrek, I know this update SONY has promised for the 3D sweep panorama and they also maintain their promise to release in July. But if there is another new update in next 2 weeks, then I will be worried. You know what I mean...

Ooh... Sorry, I thought you guys were talking about the A to E mount adaptor. Sony did promise that.

At least SONY acknowledged there are issues (which product doesn't have issues?) and they are determined to continue to improve the product to satisfy the customers.

Rather than come out with a product, no firmware update or improvement, leaves all the buyers high and dry and within 6 months, come out with a replacement model which is same price with better specs...that's even worst right?

My battery problem appears to be solved with the firmware upgrade. The other night I forgot to switch it off and it was left in auto-off mode but with switch in "on" position. When I powered it up, battery was 99%, so its good. :)

My sentiment on firmware update differs from yours because of past experience. Take the iPhone 4 as example, they need to release new firmware to fix a hardware fault found by the users. For me, I will distance away from such equipment.

I rest my case here. :)
