My sentiment on firmware update differs from yours because of past experience. Take the iPhone 4 as example, they need to release new firmware to fix a hardware fault found by the users. For me, I will distance away from such equipment.

I'm surprise you think that way, but is the norm in the digital camera industry. Nikon and Canon also have frequent Firmware updates for their DSLR. Only yesterday Canon release firmware updates for the 1D Mark IV and 550D for bugs fixes.
Like Ouverture said, it's good practice that Sony acknowledges shortcomings in their product ranges. Unlike iPhone 4 when Steve Jobs try to deny those claims initially to users holding it wrongly :bsmilie:.
Just accept the facts it's norm to be issued firmware updates every now & then. I rest my case too.
