[News] Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM1

Waiting for the grip to be available..

and buy an extra battery at the same time

hey guys any idea will singapore sell the GM1 body only?

The lens alone box goes for around US400 to USD500 while the whole body with lens kit goes for $800. I wonder whether its the lens or the body expensive or it's just the lens being overpriced now , hiah.

My regular dealer said that the GM1 is moving very slowly. Not that much demand for it, it seems. The orange one looks quite nice to me, not that I would buy one though.
Sales of the Sony A7/A7r has also screeched to a halt because of the lack of FE lenses especially now that the 35mm is also out of stock.

Kit lenses sold as separate SKUs are always excessively overpriced.

Pretty much human nature , BBB craze gotta slow down someday. Just a few weeks back I could even see 1 person desperate enough to buy the A7 body to 'stone' at home as there were zero FE lenses available then and now B n S offers A7 sets now and then.

Orange looks good ;) but yeap , demand for the GM1 seems to be slow when I last checked with 2 shops in Funan. But for the current prices , it's still a good price.

i just wonder why the gm1 sales is that slow? was it the price factor? or any other possible factors.

I have the feeling every segment and niche of the market is already very saturated.

Does OIS makes a big difference?
Recently took some photos with GM1 + 20mm f1.7 but results were :(

Previously using 20mm with e-pl5 and no issues..

I hold quite steady already..

It is very hard to hold steady with a small body~~~

Seems to depend on your hands. For me it doesn't, I keep being disappointed by IS both in-lens and in-body. I don't care anymore if my setup has it or not, I rather take a faster lens.

For compact MFT, there are already the cheaper and well regarded Oly EPL series. For compacts, there are already Sony RX100 II, Panny LX7, Fuji X1 etc which are very good and cheaper too.

So where does GM1 fit in? The body is small and nice but with the kit lens, it's really not that compact to fit into your purse or jeans. Forget about other lenses which are all bigger.

IQ? For most people who are looking at size, the minor difference in IQ is not going to be a deal breaker and they might not even notice the difference.

It is no wonder that sales are slow

The 20/1.7 doesn't come with in lens IS hence u r basically using the setup without any stabilization as compared to your EPL5 kit.

Guess u will need to make some slight adjustments to your shooting habits with the new setup by maybe starting with min shutter speeds of 1/40s.

Had tried the GM1 with the 12-32 thanks to WongLP's loan kit and I think the kit lens IS is decent though :)

What? Why are you letting others decide whether or not to buy the camera? Buy the damn thing if you like it. But don't let decisions of others dictate whether you should or should not buy the camera.

In any case, the average buying power of Singaporeans isn't fantastic, so sales being slow is nothing new.

We can't say presumed slow sales imply that the camera isn't good. The market is just saturated with choices :) around $850 one really have quite a lot of choices to pick from for example the EPL5/6.

More important qn might be what r your reasons for getting the GM1? If it's because u aim to have a really compact body and plan to use it with compact lenses (probably primes only if u r going to skip the 12-32mm) then it may be a good choice.

oh i am just a point and shoot person so most likely i leave it auto and just use the kit lens, i just simply want to get a better and sharper image quality and also small form factor and less weight is good, however handling a such a small tiny mft may prove to be tedious.. so i was wondering so far any gm1 users want to share their experience with it?
