[ News ] GX7 is available for sale in Singapore

Actually as long as there is a power plug, you can do timelapse.

Just buy those power products like Goalzero where you have a lithium or acid based battery pack that outputs AC current. Bring along solar panels and you can possibly do months of time lapse.

If someone can just break that battery code, link the lithium battery to an external power pack, then you do not need a usb charging port. But realistically you should just get those goalzero power packs.

Very heavy leh ... and $459 bucks !

Well, if you even bother to look around the website, there is a 0.5kg version for 50whr at usd199.

If my memories serve me right, there are dc to ac invertors. I can easily build a power pack for 50~100whr, use an invertor and make a 3 plug UK AC output at a cheaper price than usd199, maybe nearer to usd80~100

It is priceless to get an awesome timelapse result. Your comment is also priceless.

Hahaha .. what development ... I am a newbie so not aware of anything ... pardon my ignorance ...

in fact, I cannot even find the green horizontal line ...

will you be kind enough to let me how how to activate the green horizontal line ?

I have been looking & fiddling with the menu screen but without success ...

Can help, please ?

Thanks

Do you even read the manual?

Do you even read the manual?

I didn't read the manual. Don't have the camera... :bsmilie:

Hey, are you coming down for the gathering? I have not seen you for the longest time... bring some prints down and share... yeah?

not priceless but free with google search. ;)

When you guys are using Panasonic Lens on your GX-7, do you turn either the OIS or IBIS off?

I was told when both are on, there will instead be no IS.

I don't have an OIS lens to test but I read that the lens OIS always take over. If you turn off OIS on lens, there will be no stabiliser at all.

Any GX7 users here manage to put on a screen protector on the LCD ?

If yes, appreciate if you let me know where you purchase it.

Thanks

Just for sharing only. I purchased the below sp from ebay. it took a while for shipping (1 week plus).

Easy to apply and applied it on GX7 for both my friend and myself within 10 seconds each. No touch screen sensivity issue and looks good. Keep one for spare myself now.

Thanks Keith for being very helpful. Really appreciate it.

The reason I cannot find it earlier bcos I thought it was set thru the menu settings. I thought I did it that way on my GH3. Obviously, I was wrong as the green horizontal line came out after pressing the DISP button.

Cheers

Good question, I was wondering what to do too. So, being kiasu, I just turned both ON ...

So, really with both ON, no stabilization ?

Hi kmlim77,

U think you can sell me your spare screen protector ?

Thanks

U shouldn't switch both on together, it will cause issues. For Pana lenses there r 2 types , one with a switch for IS one without. For the GX7 I'd advise that U switch the lens IS off and keep the body IS on.

For lenses without the switch like the 14-42x zoom. I'm not clear as the GX7's the first body with built in IS.

Thanks Keith ... that means I have been wrong liao.

I also have a problem then ... my panasonic lens usuallly comes with switch. I used them on my GH3. So I turn the switch on the lens to ON.

But when comes to GX7, if I have to turn the switch on the lens to OFF everytime I change from GH3 to GX7 and vice-versa, that will be quite troublesome bcos I will often forget.

Can I, on the GX7 then, turn the IS on the body to off then on the lens to ON ?

Thanks

NB: Just curious, what will actually happened if I turn both to ON ? Really no stabilisation ? Or it will make the IQ bad ? Thanks again ... cheers

The lens OIS always supercedes

"Interestingly, the GX7 is the first Lumix G-series model to sport sensor-based image stabilisation, which is said to offer the same benefit as the lens-based OIS technology incorporated into Panasonic’s lenses. Should an OIS lens be used with the GX7, the camera will default to lens-based OIS."

"As for not being able to use in-body IS with an IS lens and with lens IS turned off, I regard this as a design failure, or at least a bug. A pretty major bug. Hopefully someone at Panasonic will read this and either contradict me with an explanation, or better yet, get it fixed in a firmware update – soon."

Thanks kel77.

So, the conclusion is simple ... to just switch & keep the IS in both body & lens to ON ... ?

Thanks again ... cheers

Quote: "If you shoot with a camera that features in-camera IS (i.e. Sony Alpha/Minolta, Pentax, Olympus) and plan on using a third-party lens that also features an IS system, turn off the camera’s IS system and rely on the lens’s IS system to smooth out the bumps in the road. Running both systems simultaneously will most certainly compromise your ability to hold things steady, not to mention cause damage to one or both of the IS systems".

In short, its probably an safety feature that in the GX7, lens OIS will supersede in case both IS systems are switched on. Hence RyanKhoo , can leave both switched on since lens IS will take over.

Quote: "Now when it comes to mirrorless cameras, in-camera IS is the best way to go in my opinion. This is where I believe Nikon made a mistake with their Nikon 1 line. When mirrorless electronic viewfinder technology is used, lens-based stabilization just does not make much sense anymore."

Source: http://photographylife.com/lens-stabilization-vs-in-camera-stabilization#ixzz2llDWbZKY

in short, I agree with what kel77 shared with the need for an update but no matter what, its a good thing that Panasonic is catching up by released a body with built-in stabilisation.
