Newbies need help right?

We have many very interesting views and suggestions.

But at the end of the day.. you ask becos you dont know or do you ask becos you know.

The answer maybe obvious but to the 'unknow' it is the 'unknow'.. so ask, ask and ask.

Like I mentioned before, the forum is an open place for everyone to voice their opinions. Everyone can just hide behind the keyboard and type all they wanted because there is a high chances that you won't get to see them in real life. So no matter how silly or stupid the questions can be, it is alright because you cannot put a face behind the nickname.

Who knows, they might be clones just to pull a fast one on members. Who can ever know who is the one behind the keyboard who type all those questions.

If this is in real life, these people might just be listeners and find the opportunities to clear their doubt in more private avenue instead of just shooting it upfront in the forum.

At times, when I read those posts, I was thinking of doing a facepalm or was rolling up my eyes... However, before I do anything, I just close that thread and put it behind me and don't bother about it. Why get so work up over things that other post? Just move on in your life.

When people need help genuinely, offer them. If you don't want to help, just walk away, no one is forcing you to give an answer, are you paid to answer those questions?

Imagine the scenario in real life, a guy walks up to the Information Counter and ask "Where is the ATM?" and there is a signage or direction just beside the counter or on the service desk. Does the service counter ask the guy to see the signage or direct them accordingly even though it is there. OR another example, a guy goes to the Information Counter and ask, "I am hungry, where can I go?". Obviously the food court right? Does the service counter shoot it straight in the face and say that? Or does she give recommendation like, "There is Burger King in B1, there is a Food Court at Level 4..." To her, these questions can sound stupid, but she is paid to do her job. That is the difference.

Everyone seems to take the concept of forum and online persona or nickname so seriously, guys and gals, there is life outside out this screen and keyboard. Don't like it, don't read it, don't bother about it. Move on with your life.

Which is faster?
A. Move the cursor, hit the "BACK" button on the web browser 2 times to get that thread which makes you feel so stupid when you answer to be out of sight
OR
B. Move the cursor, Hit the "QUOTE" or "Q-Reply" or "Post A Reply" button, then type "Have you use Google?" OR "Do you even bother to use the search function?", then Hit the "Submit Reply" Button

The choice is up to us. Forum has given one each a voice but that does not give us the rights to show abuse to others. Hope you all understand that.

No one is forcing no one to answer what they think are stupid queries, and with that option in mind, it takes a person of certain upbringing to derive humerous pleasure in boorish replies, especially to basic queries from newbies.

To be frank CS is not the only forum I lurk around. I often hang out on some flickr groups and I learnt that CS culture is weird. Probably not due to CS but some individuals here. I hope it be the latter. On those flickr groups I see people are more lenient towards newbie questions. I see the same questions asked again and again but none of replies is like "Please google it". Instead, referrence links to the old threads are suggested. The replies are far more useful than just "google it yourself".

C&C given to newbies also dishearten me. Sarcastic remark without why, tips to improve is just another way representing yourself as an ass to the world. Newbie or not, that's definitely not the way to treat a human being

i agree thats the reason why i decided to point it out... it seems wrong how some people can just be mean spirited... and whats even weirder is they actually have the gall to justify their actions ....

Well, this is cs. Gotta take it for what it is. Hais...
