hi all,
i am new to this forum and new in photography.i am planning to get a dslr.
models in mind is as fellow
1.eos350d
2.nikond50
3.nikond70s
may i know which is a good buy and how much/where i ccan get cheapest.

Nikon D70s - a real good buy. if u want canon , then 350D lor...

u can get D70, like mine for about $900 if u really want to get started in DSLR, i will sell it to you.

Canon 1Ds MII
or
Nikon D2X

Better choice

D70s! I'm using that too! Its great! But beware of the BBB Virus!!!

for nikon. i rather you get the D70s for the improvements over the D70.

canon. 350D is good. and a used 10D is good too.... :)

body is always a secondary issue.. Lens play a big part in perspective, performance and of course image quality.

thats all technical stuffs.... softwares and brains eyes come right before you buy the product and jump into DSLR.

I have a fren that uses a D70, and I am currently using a D70s.

I didnt really see the difference, except for the bigger LCD which might and might not be good, cos it saps batt life if you preview often.

Other than that, maybe the USB2.0? cable release? :dunno:

For me, being a student, the price made a difference. I happen to chance upon a fantastic deal offered by a kind gentleman to let me start my interest in photography.

lens is important too, but i think the 18-70mm kit is a fantastic lens to start with. being shooting mainly on that. rarely use my 70-300mmG tele for longer shots.

As for 350D, i not a canon user, but have a fren that owns a 20D. was thinking of getting that too, but felt that it wasnt very nice. so went to search for 10D and 20D, but price too steep. then, read more and more, and also tried out my fren's D70, finally feel that Nikon is great  ! so got that in the end....

maybe you also can go try out? can borrow from fren or rent? haa haa, if you looking for renting D70, I got a fren that might be able to rent you. :bsmilie:

in that case. in case u are still confused which is better.

Nikon.

Poor ISO performance. despite many improvements, its still rather noisy at ISO 640-800 and above. thats provided if you shoot at such a high ISO.

Colours. good colours but performs differently with different lens. of course you pay more to get good colours and performance.

AF speed and focusing speed dependant on both lens and body.

Extremely Sharp. Very good in detailing work.

Canon

Good ISO performance. Clean ISO up till 800. Good ISO performance at high ISOs.

Good colours at all ranges of ISO. many canonians will tell you that most professionals will choose Canon for its colours and good ISO control.

AF speed is dependant on L lens only. Body plays secondary role, electronically controlled AF. you pay MORE for L lens for its great lens and speed.

IMHO, not as sharp as some Nikons, but can still live with it... good for fashion photography, sports and nature.

hope this helps... Both systems have their own pros and cons. go with either one, you wun go wrong... in the end. its you whos making the purchasing, not us. in the end its you who do the learning and live with the system.

different people have different taste for each system. get the system you feel more comfortable in. ;) . both D70s and 350D is good for starting out.

Reason for you to choose D70s over D70. (its a newer technology, and improved, fixed bugs and etc. bigger sceen doesnt mean anything to me anyway. yes it does suck more battery. but i would emphasize NOT TO review every each shot. its a bad habit..)
