But you must be prepared to shot with viewfinder. No more LCD;) Many prosumer user, including myself has a little problem getting used to this. For your photography, I think DSLR will be more fun. I'll love to see your IR shots with K100D:D

Yeah, a lot more mar fun, the IR in future.. =D Need to screw on and off, because cannot see anything in viewfinder when you screw on the filter.

And of course no more live view. =( But so much more things to play with! Hehehe! Will let you guys know when I buy. Will probably from OP also.. The price!

There are actually DSLR with live view in the market now and more will come out in future.:)

Olympus are winning hearts of entry lvl DSLR with this:bsmilie:

Called/SMS OP abd they said that the warranty is shop based. I asked them if they could convert the warranty to International. They said they have one year shop warrantywith ten days quality exchnage assurance. So now international warranty? :dunno:

Anyway their new stocks for the K100D arrived today! Hurry and book your set!:bsmilie:

Then no international warranty liao. Unless you can bug them give you their China shop stamp:bsmilie: OP seems to have a lot of supporters, so don't think they'll close that easily. But only scare local distributors make noise:think:

BTW you see any new Pentax lenses there?

Actually I only made calls and did a booking, didn't physically went down to the shop. Would do so on Saturday hopefully.;)

Bumping up this thread because I thought it'd be pretty boh liao to start a new one just for myself.

Will be getting the K100D very soon, once the bucks roll in. Question though, if I shoot landscapes primarily (heck, I only use the 35mm end on my Sony H2), should I even bother getting the kit lens, or do I just get a wide angle zoom with better quality right away?

I remember longko mentioning the Sigma 17-70 when I met him a while back, have been doing a little of my reading up before I post this, so I think another option is the 18-50 from Sigma. Right?

Which would you guys recommend though? =/ I'm actually thinking of just getting the body and another lens, I know the kit lens is good, but if I'm going to get a better set later on, it doesn't make sense to me to keep both unless I use the kit as some rough use set or something, especially since there's going to be a massive overlap!

Thanks in advance for your replies!

these will be your options;

Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 abt $650
Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 abt $600
Pentax P-DA 16-45mm f4 abt $640

Or you can get the kit lens & wait for DA*16-50mm f2.8;p (I'd checked with OP last week, K100D kit is $860 & K100D body is about $760-780)

Of course if you have more budget can consider primes too;)

For landscapes, the general rule is wider = better, and that almost everything else is irrelevant (you're using a good tripod so shutter speed doesn't matter right?)

From that perspective, I don't know whether there's an advantage getting either the sigma 18-50 or 17-70 - they both provide about the same wide angle.

I would get either the sigma 10-20 or the pentax 12-24.

Thanks for the help dude, much appreciated.

$80 difference, pffbt, think I just pay for the lens then.. =D Thought would be more of a difference.

Thanks for your help too. Not really, wider not always better for me.. =D The advantage I perceive would be better lens quality and output image quality, hrm. Although both the 18-50 and 17-70 still have perceivable distortion at the wide end, something which I don't quite like.

In a sense I like fixed lenses, I use my H2 like a fixed lens anyways. =/ Come to think of it, maybe I'll just get the kit and then get 2 other fixed primes. Since 17-70 and 18-50 all got distortion anyways.

Anyone uses the 21 mm limited pancake? Honestly couldn't find any reviews on that one, shouldn't be too shabby right, performance? Need to find out the price as well, though that will come later.

And of course perhaps later at last a 50mm, might want to dabble in portraiture. =D

Mm.

Fair enough. wider = better is just the general thing. I've seen excellent landscape shots taken with a 77 1.8.

Why don't you just get the kit first, see if you can live with it's deficiencies, then get a 16-50 * when that arrives ;)

Good idea. The overall package should produce (note, I say should because I'm not sure) better landscape photos in terms of quality among other things than my H2 anyways.. =D

Generally better to wait, hor!
