Did any tamron user ever receive the free voucher from jelcorp? i email filled warranty and receipt to gen.enquiries@jelcorpcom, no reply. i call up the customer service, she is very rude and told me to email to another email.... (vommited blood) now i try to fax..... Haiz Any user please advice? Thx

really ah? Those cockanaden Tamron people advertise and place their email address in their advertisements and now they say use another email, and rude somemore, is it a TRICK or marketing GIMMICK so that after 17th January, they can claim that they never receive customer's email or fax, so they won't honour giving the $100 vouchers? or they dilly dally, then use the same wrong email address and later say NO MORE VOUCHERS already... Some crappy companies always use these kind of loser gimmicks to shirk responsibility and save costs. Hope Tamron doesnt use this trick, or else every forum will see Tamron distributor being flamed in Spore...

I called the service centre and the lady didnt sound too polite. however i wont consider it as rude la...

I left my number because the guy incharge of warranty issues was out of office. surprisingly a very polite guy called the next day (although the lady promised the day before) and he even reminded me to send in the voucher.

And i've just received my voucher earlier after faxing the warranty and receipt in on monday evening...

does that mean if no voucher won't buy TAMRON? :dunno:
Jelcorp is a very big international company and can advertise on papers and CS,
I seriously don't think they will resort to trick/cheat on vouchers lor! :bsmilie:

I conversed with the person in charge a couple of times and apparantly it was overwhelming response.
They promised to sent out all vouchers by end of the month.
For those who have emailed, your sent mail is already an electronic proof.
For those who fear that their email will get accidentally deleted as junk mail,
you can always fax in instead (if u have one).

Apparantly, the advertised email address and telephone number belongs the 'receptionist'.
If I am the receptionist, handling so many calls regarding vouchers, I will be 'pek chek' too. They do have other bigger businesses to attend apart from answering TAMRON related calls lor. Just try to be more understanding bah. ;)

Nevertheless, Jelcorp also promised to take over the remainder TAMRON warranty of products bought during Tithes time (must have receipt and Tithes issued TAMRON warranty card). So kudos to them!

Just got my deserved S$100 Tangs voucher earlier than expected.
Validity is longer than expected too!

Hi!

The 18-270mm lens has serious barrel distortion at 18mm wide open. CA is not so bad. But the barrel distortion can be easily corrected using photoshop.
Eddie

At what focal length will the barrel distortion disappear? Is there barrel distortion say at 20mm, 24mm or 28mm? Thank you.

the barrel distortion is there,
all zoom lenses have barrel distortions,
just that more pronouced in superzooms.

but is it really so bad?
18mm
here is one:

acceptable for me like this:

probably most pronouced when framed like this:

20mm
very acceptable

I was told by MS color to go down Changi North personally to redeem the voucher. I got a Tamron 17-50 lens.

Hi,

I got my 2 weeks ago, I am using a D300, under low light, the focusing is extremely slow as compared with Nikkor, I called Service people and they confirm.

I experience once 4 days ago, when under low light and trying to shoot upwards about 30 - 45 degree, I can hear the focusing motor and VR motor straining. It is a horrible noise, I have used a 18 - 105 Nikkor VR lens, and it is alot quieter.

Then suddenly, I got an error message on my D300 "triangle AF, aperture 95", Nikon Singapore is now checking what error 95 is. I can't release shutter. Some bro, advice me to take lens out, clean contacts and put back, now no problem.

Anyone experience before.

Also, in steep angel, the weight of the lens tend to slide back down, I am wondering will it damage the focus and VR motor?

Regards,
Gerries

I tested my tamron in the night shot, see the thread "3rd attempt ...."

Hi All,

I am contemplating to get this lens sometime back as I find it versatile and quality of pictures are acceptable to me. Now with the current promotion would seem the best time to get this lens. But the selling prices have seem to have gone up as compared to before the promotion.

Wonder if some kind souls can direct me via PM to the right place to get this lens as I tried calling some retailers and the most reasonable one with no price increase since the previous time I called has gone out of stock.

Thanks.

it is normal for this lens to take a long time to focus confirm/lock in dark situations,
furthermore the lack of SWM, hence cannot compare to AF-S lenses.

never felt a difference when pointing horizontal or diagonally upwards. as for the sound u heard, if it is different from normal then there is a problem. Or else, its focusing motor and VC's "click-start click-stop" are actually audible and louder than AF-S lenses.

Never had such an error like yours.

At steep angle, never felt lens barrel sliding/creep back,
maybe that is because I always hold on to the barrel when handheld.
Maybe it will creep when set on a tripod with barrel fully extended and pointing upwards or downwards at steep angles.

What nonsense is that!?
Within a week from faxing in, I had mine delivered by courier even on a Saturday!!

ZoomP, call up JELCorp to verify: 6248 5333
I am quite certain there is no need for u to go down to Changi.

if knowing that you can live with the compromises (lack of SWM and slower aperture), price close to AF-S 18-200 VR but yet find the quality acceptable,
then this is a rather good lens to have.

with the promotion, you are actually paying only S$800 for it!!
S$100 Tangs voucher can go buy yourself a nice shirt from Tangs Orchard/VivoCity for CNY!

Has anyone made comparisons/test shots with this and the Canon 18-200mm? (I know about the Lightrules comparison but hoping for another point of view).

here too comparing with canon is 18-200mm

Looking at getting this lens too.. (last few days for the 100 voucher haa... ) been digging around for more review and comparison... but it seems many cannot stand the slow AF!
how bad really is this? canon is very fast in this by 50% and above as in many review.

Hope for some advice here. :)

Thanks in advance..

dun just rely on reviews,
the best is to visit the shops and try out both.
MS Color IIRC have more Canon mounts than Nikon.
So might be worth it to visit them.
From a Nikon user pov, the Tamron takes much longer than AFS to lock focus.
In less contrast scenes, it can take 3 and even up to 5 seconds to lock focus!! not hunt but lock focus*! it only hunts (which is also slow) if really very dark and tricky scenes.
must admit it is really slow in focus lock but i can live with it, since I am shooting static scenes most of the time when using this lens.
If shooting people or actions, I will use my fast lenses.

* when i say focus lock, i meant that the focus is already there and focus ring is not hunting from one end to the other, but the green dot in the viewfinder has yet light up. i assume it is making very micro adjustments before giving the green light and then shutter can be released (if you use focus priority and not shutter-release priority).

This is the last wkend toget $100 voucher for purchase of Tamron 18-270 VC. However, Sigma 18-250 OS just announced. Need advice, guys. Should I hold out in case Sigma 18-250 OS has better image quality or in case downard price pressure is exerted on Tamron 18-270 VC? Thank you very much.

with HSM, the answer is obvious.

if the email bounces, then its non-existant.

anyway try faxing in instead

Just got my tammy 1750,I also send my receipt and warranty card scanned copy by email to the same email address, and i had got my voucher 4 days after. Hurray... Keep shooting buddy!!!;)
