It's done entirely in Sigma 24-70 HSM. Very addictive. The optics is for sure better than Canon's 24-70L. I've tried both lens and didn't like the 24-70L at all. Moreover, it is more expensive.

the performance wide open and compact size seems to be worth the half price compared to the canon and nikkor's 24-70. Certainly a good alternative who finds the original brands offerings too expensive.

You have mixed up with the old sigma 24-70 with the new one HSM which we discuss here....

The price of new sigma 24-70 can't be half of the canon 24-70

one complaint about the 24-70 sigma, doesn't seem to work well with an external flash (in my case SB900). The focusing accuracy becomes very poor when using the AF assist of the external flash, a problem i don't seem to face when using nikkor lens. The camera will seem to want to focus more on the background with straight lines rather than my main subject even when i put the center AF point on the subject's face.

Now i am currently using the SB900 without the AF assist beam since the 24-70's AF itself is accurate and fast.... but not really an ideal situation that the lens doesnt work well with the external flash AF assist.

Just tried the old version and found the color repoduction very nice and the picture quality very attractive. So I believe the HSM version with a extra ELD len is going to perform better.

BTW if u compare the size, the HSM sure win... old version is too bulky haha

let me know if anyone manages to get the lens at 1200 from John 3:16 as i have serious doubts about that quote.

when i was shopping for a copy of the lens, John 3:16 was one of the first shops i went to, and one of the staff quoted me 1.5k for the hsm sigma 24-70, and stated they had no stock and have to order from Sigma. The very friendly boss then came along and said no no, the lens is 1.2k....but....i recommend u to buy the older version, and kept trying to sell me the virtues of the older one claiming the new version is no different apart from HSM. At this point, the original staff talking to me looked genuinely stunned and actually questioned and said he don't think its that cheap!

from my research at all the shops, even MS color, where florence did not have the stock, she called the sigma distributor and then informed me she can let me have the lens at $1475.

This lens goes for £799 in the UK, i really doubt that John 3:16 can get special treatment from sigma to be able to sell it at 1200. More likely than not he will say "no stock, buy the older version, much more worth the $$".

Think its true john selling at 1.2k... cos I'm buying lens at that point of time and 24-70 HSM is one of the lens I wanted to get. If they anyhow quote and I order from him at 1.2k, who is going to topup the difference if they can't get the lens at that price?

Spend too much on that day so didn't prder the HSM.... so tempting haha

i think it great lens wont be droping down the cost to be $1.2k
their never well up the price is ok for me.
or suddenly well up to $1.8k dunno will be what happen.
because for the original lens still very expansive.
also same to used.
no body to be comparing too much for the IQ.
