New Pentax K-30 now on sale for $784 (before GST)

fyi only
called op yest, otoh it's $1357 for black k30 18-135 cash, cf webstore (1242+gst=1329).
quite comparable, but webstore can use credit card right? if have pts/cash back better hee

Fully agree. Use with scb bonus saver ac get $39. break up the purchases over a few months and continue to earn multiples. Good enough to buy more accessories

Hehe, maybe thats why I wasn't so eager to get it on the launch day this round :). This time I might go for a black one 'cause I already played the white and the blue ones.[/QUOT

Deliberating between black and white. Which is nicer do u reckon?

How does black lens look on the white body?

Called slr k30 with 18-135 is 1327. Seems a better deal than orient.

K30 is like making many pple going out of control.

Can someone already got this try it out and advise how good is this? And do a comparison between this k30 and k5 interns of output quality both jpeg and raw, also on handling.

Please please brothers and sisters out there quick quick help on this, as very itch to get one also (currently using k5).

very tempting but no spare cash to buy new gear for now after my last overseas trip and my upcoming CB9 trip.

hope we get local reviews and samples images, will be great to see how the K-30 perform!

why is the k30 dual kr lens set cheaper than the 18-135mm wr lens set ? sorry newbie here.

because, dual kr lens set is cheap to make, while the long zoom range lens is expensive to make, manufacture costs counts more than the focal length numbers

Jus got it from op too. The focus is really really v fast. The main thing is tt its a cheap and really good upgrade for k7 and below users I think haha

Loud, but nice n solid. Feels a bit like an old fm2 I must say

anyone bought via pentaxwebstore? Is it delivery or self-collect?

U got one before? U know the DC motor performance? U be amazed how noisy your room surroundings are hahahaha

It has a weakness- when at 18mm lines become curved. But this is something you can work around very easily because most people do not usually take photos of purely horizontal lines very often. Usually it's a mixture of curves, diagonal/horizontal/vertical lines and colours and depth.

So for normal daily use, it's not a big deal at all.

In fact, overall I love it- sharp, quick and quiet auto focus, reasonable bokeh for a normal zoom, nice colour, and, of course, when paired with a WR body, weather resistance- you become just that much more confident using your camera because you dont have to worry about rain/snow/sand damage.

To me, the real weakness is that it only zooms to 135mm, and not, say, 200 or 250mm

It's really irritating how they bundle their products. Shops do not have the camera bundled with the WR kit lens. Only way to get it with WR kit lens is the webstore. And if I get it from the webstore I don't get a chance to handle the camera first.

And the webstore doesnt bundle the white/blue ones with the WR lens. Do you guys think the bundles will change over time? Or it's just gonna stay like this?

My advice regarding photozone's reviews is to take as reference, but no more than that.
Reason is that all these reviews focus on the measurables (ie. sharpness, distortion, etc)
What these fail to evaluate are the important for real world usage stuff like size/weight; close focus; rendering/contrast; weather sealing; etc

I did a review of this lens some time back.
To me its a good lens and ideal all rounder. Basically, the 18-55+50-200 combo and then some on just one lens.
Real world use, a lot of the measurables as described on photozone are not that discernible (nor matter for most photos).
The practical implications of this lens not measured nor even mentioned in such reviews, matter in real world use though.

of course, its only for reference only too... :)

Here's a series of 5 phots I took of "The Predator" outside a Phuket Thai Boxing arena using the K-5 and 18-135mm lens. There's no post processing, all OOC. I think they look ok
