New one dollar coin - it will rust!

Time to get a powerful portable magnet to sweep the floor for coins :)

I'm going to use my pen to sweep for $1 coin. :bsmilie:

Have you tried to use two as nipple covers to see whether they stick? :bsmilie:

... and hoping to remove that cover from some distance too.

Actually there is, 316 is commonly referred to as marine grade SS.

It's not rust resistant, it's corrosion resistant.

Interesting thing about stainless steel is that it will hold up quite well if immersed in water, can be saltwater, that has supply of oxygen. It'll form an oxide film that protects it.

If immersed in stagnant water, once void of oxygen, the film disappears, dissimilar metal corrosion sets in and it eats itself away. The dissimilar metals are from the stainless steel alloy.
Yup, also have to take into account factors such as temperature etc. etc.

When used in machinery spaces such as propulsion plant, corrosion rate tend to increase as well. Even for lets say Ti-6Al-4V or Ti-5Al-2.5Sn in jet turbines for example, always a cause for concern after an event pertaining to any salt water ingestion as crevice corrosion could just set in.

The new coins can also be picked up by magnets

Kei
This is in your territory. Or should I say "up your alley"

Should do a time lapse on the coin since it will rust. Hourly rate interval, for a week? Heh heh!

Anyone has any luck in turning the coin into gold?

Done my part already... Maybe TS want to act on his/her part... :bsmilie:

I will put 10c, 20, 50c and old one dollar coin into my fountain for a month, let see if they rust. My last observation of many wishing fountain's coins are they are not rusty.

Great idea, but I think daily interval for a month is better. But then camera cannot use for a month ....

I put the new one dollar coin in my water fountain about a month ago. Guess what, I realize it is rusty! The edge area along the center silver.
Try it to see yourself.

have you tried soaking it with Coke?

Please stop testing the new one dollar coins. It'll do you no good & get rusty results but instead of doing all the testing & wasting time, just give me all your one dollar coins & you can spend the time doing something more worthwhile like transporting all your one dollar coins to me...............:sweatsm:

Plan other activities for a month without camera involves lor. Heh heh!

At least 6 hours interval. One day only got 30 photos, only 1 sec show. Ha ha!

That's the spirit !!

Got rust or no rust... shop still accept can already...

You should do a time lapse of the oxidisation process :)

Hi diver-hloc,
I must say that using liquid laundry detergent is a rather novel way of laundering your money.
