From The Straits Time;

"A car owner can now accept payment from passengers who hitch a ride. This and other rules and regulations governing carpooling came into effect on Monday under the Road Traffic Act in an effort to bring legal clarity to what was a grey area. The move is also expected to boost car sharing, which in turn should ease congestion on the roads and on public transport."

So we might see more 霸王车 (pirate taxi) on the road and waving hands at the bus stop and ask you want to go Shenton Way or not?

Wondering how are they going to charge you for per trip?

LOL

The taxi companies should be complaining soon

$10 will bring you to JB...so beat that :bsmilie: Morover, it has not clarified can we hitch J plate car? ;p

I often heard taxi driver complained now is much difficult to get customer on the road for business.

Perhaps taxi driver should just pickup customers (散客)along the way if the seats has not been fill. This is like roll back to the 50' & 60' era those taxi driver operate. The customer get to split fares and taxi get to fill up customer just like car pooling.

Less ppl take train, hence less ppl complain if there is train break down.

- LOL

well this maybe a gd news to drivers who always have to send n fetch those shameless colleagues n friends

the shameless will continue to ask for free rides regardless hehe

During peak hours, you will never have 'enough'taxis. What is required is to solve this and not leave it to taxis company to solve it themselves. Typical of current ministry way of resolving matters. Everything just push downward. Once you do that, these people will do things that will benefits them instead of solving the commuters problems. Then the authority will come up with another rule. The circle keeps going without resolving the original issue.
