anyone fretting to get this yet ?

supposed to be launched in May 2005. more etails on the main site.

at a time when rangefinder brands are closing down or threatening to do so. maybe this is the reason why.

I'm waiting for one in black if Zeiss decides to offer it in that color. The projected street price of about US$1000 makes it pretty attractive.

Swee!
Good for casual snaps!

From what I've read, it's based on the Voigtlander R2a ... and built by Cosina.

I did read that the Voigtlander Bessas and the Zeiss Ikon are different cameras altogether.

Singapore got sell anot ?

i just check BH website, the body alone selling at US $1617 !!

rather get the proven M6 which i believe will be more solid than Cosina production..

I would get one just for the long RF base length. Sure makes focusing fast lens much easier!

here is a page from cameraquest re: zeiss/cosina:
http://www.cameraquest.com/rfren.htm

here is a page from zeiss ikon:
http://www.zeissikon.com/making2.htm

(I am in a hurry now, don't have time to locate the press release which states it if I recall, from photokina 2004)

p/s Yes, it is different from the R2a in terms of base-length, but it is "based on", and is not 100% a diff. camera.

Good news for rollei fans...

i just heard that B&H has dropped the price of the M-mt Rollei RF camera based on the R2 to US$499.

EVEN @USD499, it's no point...There is nothing so Rollei about it (virtually a discontinued Cosina Bessa R2). BTW, a new Bessa R3A is USD559, US$60 more.

??

u mean the Rollei RF is made by Cosina too ??

YES. (But don't take my word for it. There is still one set on display at CP, check it out.)

Does anyone know whether this Rollei RF has the 35mm & 90mm frame line ??

i d/l the pdf file but no mention of it..

thank you..

Hi

the new Zeiss Ikon M mount rangefinder lenses, namely the distagon 25 f2.8, biogon 28 f2.8, biogon 35 f2 and the planar 50f2 are all already available in Singapore at Pro Photo at Plaza Sing. Your choice of chrome or black :)

Prices are roughly 1/2s of their Leica equivalents. Of course this is variable according to where you buy and price Leica lenses - gray market will be much lower and "official" retail prices will be higher - your favourite dealer will often give you lower prices etc......

I asked the pple there - the camera body itself is supposed to be due end of this month or early June.

Are the lenses based on (or same as) the Contax G lenses?

I have compared the MTF curves and apparently they are not the same. The distortion performance seems best for the G2 lenses. Not sure is it due to Cosina camera metering requirement that some space are needed between the lens and the shuttle curtain. Therefore the lens cannot be design to be as near the film as possible. That is also one of the reason given by Zeiss that the Distagon design is chosen for the 15/2.8 rather than the almost zero distortion 16/8 hologon.

Hi

like wat fuwen said, I don't think so. According to the FAQ on the Zeiss Ikon site, these lenses are supposed to be optimised for a possible future digital rangefinder body - a subtle hint that they want a slice of, or create a bigger cake, out of the currently small digital rangefinder market (held by the Epson Cosina RD-1....)

Hi,

what is the singapore price for the 28 f2.8 biogon? Any idea when the 21mm lens is coming out? Thanks!
