You'll be amazed. The new batch of Kenko DGX TCs will AF with the 100 HIS almost at the same speed as the bare lens under low light. I just verified that (1/30 sec, f/4, ISO 12800) for the millionth time. :bsmilie: You should check it out if you get the chance... Optical quality is pretty amazing too.

how much is the Kenko thing? does our canon 1.4 work with this 100L?

SLR Revolution sells it for about S$225 (cash) and Cathay Photo for S$266. The last time I checked, Cathay Photo still does not have stock.

Canon's 1.4x TC will NOT work with 100 HIS simply because the TC has a protruding element as shown here.

Caution: only the new batch of Kenko Pro300 DGX (NOT DG) teleconverter with the green sticker works. There is also an MC4 DGX teleconverter that has awful optical quality when paired with the 100 HIS lens, contrary to what the above link shows.

Wow if that's true I might get it baq!!!

im using both kenko 1.4X & 2X 300 Pro with 100L. the only problem is its taking hard time to lock into a subject even with enough light coz its AF so fast that it misses its target.

but i have no problem using both TCs with 100 non-L coz its AF is slower and it can lock on its target.

And I bet both your TCs come with DG and NOT the DGX designation. :) I have tested the various TCs (wasted a lot of money in the process) and the difference in AF speed is rather astounding. People often get the various TCs confused.

If you already got the EF 100mm 2.8 macro then no point upgrading. Most macro shooting requires tripod anyway. The lens is also very light so even using a portrait lens it does not matter. However, if you do not own the 100 macro then it is a very good buy.

Unfortunately, I don't stay in the East. :)

I just bought the kenko 1.4x DGX with a green dot sticker for $200 at Alan photo, sim lim. Out of stock at MS and OP, but Alan still have 3 after I bought one. Working great on 100L macro when I test there :)

Does this new batch also work well with 70-200 2.8 mk2

Unfortunately, I don't have the new 70-200 f/2.8 IS Mk2. You should bring that lens for testing with the new DGX TC.

Does it also work with the non-IS 100mm? can still AF?

Although I no longer have the non-IS 100 macro, I am confident it'll AF just fine. Challenge is usually in the newer lenses.

doodah... a Q... does the IS works as well with the DGX TC attached?.. thanks

ill try that DGX if my 100L wont hunt like when i use the Pro 300...

how much is 2x DGX?

Yes, IS still works.

Note the difference does not lie with the Pro 300. The TC must have DGX label (vs. DG) and green sticker. Optically, the Pro 300 DGX and Pro 300 DG are the same.

Never checked price of 2x DGX.

How is the IQ with the 1.4 DGX with 100mmL IS? Is the differences great ? Just to confirm you will lose 1 stop for the 1.4 ?

Naturally, you'll expect some degradation but it's still pretty decent. And yes, you'll lose 1 stop of light. With the new DGX teleconverter, the camera will automatically reflect this loss of light in the f-number (i.e., the fastest aperture setting for 100L IS + 1.4x DGX TC is f/4 and not f/2.8).
