if you use tripod for macro, you might need it...
mount the base plate to your cam instead?... get a better ball head??..

i own this lens. Must confess out of all the lenses i own, it is the least used. Its loverly, but if i had the choice again i would buy the 85mm.

disagree! 100L is one of the fastest AF-ing lens i've owned & used. tried on 5D2, 40D, & 550D, all give the same response. for the reference, i have 24-70L, 70-200 2.8L IS, & 100 Macro...
really? my 15-85 focuses faster than my 100L and i m quite sure the 24-70 focuses faster than my 15-85
