going to Holland is nearer than going to HV for now. I shall wait for reviews and see what is canon's next release. This is a want and not need item. BBB shall resume next year. Have to tie my hands up. :bsmilie:

By the way, what is the best macro flash for 100mm F2.8L macro? Is Sigma EM-140 DG Macro Ring Flash good or the original Canon MR-14EX or MT-24EX (Need to get adapter)?

i have the original canan mr 14ex...and yes u need adaptor...damn screw up...need to find now..i was using a cokins A adaptor for my previous macro.

if you run manual mode i feel no diff with brand.sigma is slightly cheaper and offers ETTL2 which both the canon doesn't.(MT24EX i not sure)

I once spoke to stanley abt ring flash..he recommended to me Metz...but i have no experience with this brand.

the insect/flower shooters i believe they don't use ring flash if i not wrong. there was some discussion on this before and i saw their outing photos no ring flash..

Just got this lens today and a few comments...

Weight: The lens is long! Thus the weight distribution is spread out and does not feel heavy, given its 600+ grams frame.

Finishing: Dull, not as shiny as the previous L lenses (24-105L)

Auto-focus speed: On my 5D2 in indoors ambient light, auto focus is very fast, but I don't have other lenses to compare, but you can feel the focus is very 'assuring'. Manual says if you switch the focus limiter correctly for the subject distance you are shooting, the speed is optimized.

IQ: Very sharp even at f2.8. But the closer you get to the subject, the more shallow the DOF (duh). What I mean by this is, even my Mickey Mouse subject, the nose which is less than 1 cm from its eyes, is already very blur. So never shoot a portrait when the lens barrel too near the subject (duh) :p

Colour: Strangely subdued for an L lens. Need to push up vibrance (+40) and saturation (+2) in ACR to get great colours.

Sample pics taken by 5D2, the 1st Mickey Mouse is taken with tripod, the rest handheld with IS on:

f/2.8, tripod shot, focus on its left eye:

Congrats on ur new purchase. Thanks for posting some samples. Is there any pp done on the #2 and #3 ?

I assume you are about 30cm from the mickey for #1 and #2. Hence the DoF and bokeh. How about standing 5m away from subject.

PP in the form of adding saturation and vibrance only. I have yet to do more test due to lack of time lolx. Will post more shots, especially macro ones and also showing its bokeh. But just to tell you, the bokeh is not as good as 135L. 135L is really legendary. This is just my feeling as I do not have a 135L with me to compare.

I got from Parisilk at Holland V. Was told that a person who originally reserved can only pick it up next week, and the shop owner said I could have it yesterday.

Price is $1285 b4 GST.

This lens will undoubtedly give you good performance for macro. Do also post some portrait shots. I am curious to see if this lens will dual up as a good portrait lens.

anyone have brought this lens together with tripod collar? if yes how is the setup like? can use with BG? too close to camera?

That is a bit on the high side. Anyway, given the demand more than supply situation, it's understandable.

I tried both lens. Both are sharp and I can't really tell the difference in bokeh. 135L is fast. When I 1st used the 100L, a bit dissapointed with the focusing speed. For in house portrait with FF camera, better stick to EF 85mm f/1.2 L II.

I would like to ask a question. When I set the switch to 0.3-0.5 mode, do a close up focus, then set the switch back to Full, the lens won't focus on far scene unless I turn the ring somewhere around 3/4 point. I noticed this in the EF 100mm non IS too. Is this normal?

Oh, I can now photograph close up at 1/30 with IS consistently. Not heavy lens. Excellent.

err...85L is too expensive lah. cannot bear to part with my dough. I just ordered a more affordable alternative in Samyang 85f1.4 MF. Should arrive within the next 2 weeks. (see my thread on this lens if interested to find out more).

I thot the AF when set to limit mode will be just as fast as the 135L? I have wanted to get the 100L for "dual" purpose. Now that I found Samyang, the 135L comes back into the picture. So need to decide which to get.

Canon where got so good to sell dual purpose lens. By the way, too many switches spoil the "mood", I always turn it to full unless is for Macro.
