New Camera at S$1600

Hi guys..ok im asking this for my teacher.

He wants to get a camera with a budget of $1600..
but he enjoys freqeunt underwater trips..so taking a underwater casing into account, he has more or less $800...He also likes macro photography. Lastly he is opened to DSLRS ( quiete impossible considering the price range) prosumers ( which i recommended him ( he likes my D50 sort of body " shiok" )) ...i also recommended him olympus cameras which i believe to be inclined to underwater photography.

Could anyone give suggestions/feedback on which camera would be suitable for his needs?

Other than budget, also got to know his level in photography (how much he knows about it & his passion) and is he just looking to capture some pics for record purpose or just purely because he likes photography. Then can consider which type of cameras to go for ( DSLR/prosumer/PNS).

Perhaps he could start with a PNS with some manual control & with casing.

Think you could also check with the guys at the underwater photography discussion forum too.

er..my teacher was saying sth about underwater gt underwater mode..sth about a red filter or wdvr...does casio Z600 have this function?

Unfortunately, that's the true case for DSLRs.

No lah depends on the brand of Underwater Housing. Subal high end brand cost twice of the dslr prices.

Why need red filter???
My impression is red filter's great for B/W photos or when you need much contrast.

lol...red filter is for film cam to counter the blue cast underwater...but for digital there u can do CWB...so red filter isnt needed in digital cam...
