Hello all!

I would like to advise all here. Never crash anyone's thread.

As you can see from the thread below,

http://clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214957

It was crashed by 'erickwan1989'(no offence meant. Really) I was perfectly fine with it, until other members expressed their anger upon seeing a staff sgt using the sword.

Some then forwarded the photo to NPCC HQ. I thought that nothing happened until today, when a teacher of mine, a teacher from my school's NPCC talked to me about the photo. She said that after the photo, along with my link was forwarded to the HQ(and apparently to my principal), someone blamed my school for I-don't-know-what-reason. Ofcourse my teacher had to answer to the HQ, but she, me and my school did not get into trouble at all. She simply argued that it was not my photo, and so my school is off the hook.

From my understanding, the photoG or the school got into trouble.

I strongly suggest that the mods here delete the post of people who crash into other people's thread, to avoid any problems.

Moral of the story: Know your subject well. Know what is offensive, what is not.
Also not to crash on other's thread.

Thanks for reading.

Oh lastly, remember. Almost all here love photography. But don't let photography be the one who spoilts your life. :)

The issue here is not about thread crashing like you described. If erickwan1989 has posted his pictures in a separate thread it would have created the same reactions (except that you would not have been involved, I guess). While we advice members to always start their own thread to showcase their pictures instead of hijacking someone else's thread, it has nothing to do with the issue here.

The person nv saw the school logo on the uniform???
and never read from erickwan1989, stating that is from GV sec. :)
lucky the thread is not long enough.

IIRC CIs are the lowest rank that could hold the sword for parades, I remembered we went through the training during the course. And yes, my school only used the sword when the (then) Minister for Education Dr Tony Tan visited our school.

Actually, thread crashing or not, is another matter. I take that actual case of thread crashing are like posting to sell the same item the TS is selling, or posting in a meet-up thread on some MO you're conducting.

Anyone could have seen the pictures and report them.

Thank roygoh for the response, thanks to all who have replied.

Hope everything is well for erickwan1989. ;)

I agree with roygoh - there's no thread crashing here, and I dont think that erickwan1989 did anything wrong. I'm not sure why the "She simply argued that it was not my photo, and so my school is off the hook. From my understanding, the photoG or the school got into trouble"

There is nothing wrong with what the photographer did. If erick got reprimanded/punished because of that alone, I'd reckon that he should seek redress/appeal for this.

to me...if someone want post his/her photos in my thread..if got any relate with my photos, i dont mind...it's ok...

nothing wrong abt "the mac 13" and "erickwan1989"...the point is which one forwarded the photo to NPCC HQ?

Did she/he read thread carefully B4 forward de photos?

This is really a stupid thread. Can't think of a word to replace "stupid".

Actually, if the whoever at the school, because he was parading with a sword that he is not supposed to, got caught on film blah blah blah, why should any of the photographers get into trouble?

We discourage thread "hijacking" mainly from the standpoint of basic courtesy.

A member posts some pictures to share and invite comments. Someone else comes along and post their pictures of the same topic, and the attention will be diverted, which is very much like interrupting a conversation, which is rude.

There are of course exceptions such as a member starting a new thread and invites others to share their pictures of the same topic. Otherwise we should respect the thread starter.

Oh, sorry I still cannot figure out what the fuss was about.

Thread "hijack?" - if the genre of the item is rougly similar, then why strat new thread? It is about NDP parade in a school, right?

People have also been scolded for starting a new thread when an existing one would have sufficed.

The fuss over a student carrying a sword?
Aiyah, let it go. It is insignificant. Student only what. Can't you forgive a student's errors (if any). Be more forgiving.

I got the real thing personally handed to me by President Sheares.
Even, then, so what? What is the big deal about a sword and carrying it?

i agree with u 101% totally.

the worst thing is Someone actually so BOLIAO and go "bao toh" the person using the person.. and even claim that he worked so hard also never use the sword before..

oh man..that means holding the sword to the person is a BIG deal yeah..

wah that "bao toh kia" my idol leh.. I Salute u :thumbsd:

kcuf2 and ricohflex, it's not about whether someone kick up a big over such a small matter.

see it from a different perspective. say you are an officer in the army, and you see a man(not officer), conducting a full-scale parade with a sword, how would you see this?

It is about being forgiving, especially of students.
They were just trying to celebrate our nation's birthday in a parade.

Others may not be aware.
The US Marine Corp has a thing called the NCO Parade Sword.
If I am not mistaken, an outstanding NCO can take part in a parade carrying this.

I have an internet photo fro msome website showing just this; but am too lazy to upload it here.

ricohflex, as you have said, US Marine Corp. This is Singapore, National Police Cadet Corp.

me being a ex-cadet from the corp, definitely knows the SOP better than you do. the ceremonial sword are only allowed to be used by officers. plus they are t-loaned from the HQ, and it's not everyday that you can t-loan it out. reason for the t-loan have to be submitted beforehand. an outstanding cadet, at the very most, can only carry a drill cane during a parade.

nobody is faulting the student/cadet for what she has done. i'm only faulting on the OC.

I seriously doubt the student is at any fault. Chances is that there is an instruction given by someone in the school and the student simply follows the order. However, that does not mean NPCC HQ don't need to do anything. They will have to take some action to set the record right by checking with the school or teacher-in-charge to find out how it happens. If not, they are just opening the flood gate to invite more of such incidents to happen.
