i attended the launch for the new leaf aptus 75 yesterday and had a chat with the guest speaker (a digital imaging pro from hk). one of the issues we talked about was regarding support and information sharing among the professionals here.
for example, he asked if there is some kind of network or active forum among the Leaf digital back users here in singapore. like for example in japan, there is an active community among the pro users there who share tips and techniques.
of course, i'm not a pro, so i can't speak for the pro community here. but there was a pro who was with us who replied there isn't really such a forum here in singapore (but we do have a professional photographers' association of course). naturally, most people are quite 'guarded' about their 'techniques'...sharing them is akin to breaking your own rice bowl.. especially here in singapore.
that's when the DI pro replied something which i would like to share with you.
true, it's an asian mentality to be traditionally guarded about 'secrets'. but what's true also is, if someone really wants to learn about the techniques and secrets...he can find out somehow, somewhere, sooner or later.
what's more important is the way you conduct your business, how you manage your shooting, your style.. basically, you are not only selling your technical capability, but your character. that's something no-one can ever duplicate or take away from you.
so...its always a good idea to be open and share and learn from one another (of course i don't mean trade secrets).
and basically..that is the essence when i started this thread. i know it's abit hippie-like, and its like a speck of rain drop in the ocean .. but let's continue to make this thread a worthwhile one
