need views for buying accessories from DD ELECTRONICS?

Yup same with me, really don't care about warranties for lenses especially for L lenses as quality is excellent out of the box except for a few lemons probably. I have owned 8-10 L's and not once did I use the warranty. As well when I sold some within warranty not once did I heard the buyers of my lenses said they claimed for warranty. Probably just lucky most of the time.

I, myself tried DD just recently and purchased last Monday a 24 1.4L II. So far so good compared to the prices of the local ones.

This may not hold true for camera bodies though, I'd hold myself with a local warrantied one or better yet a refurbished one from canon directly since usually its the bodies that are more inconsistent with quality. Sometimes you might just really need a warranty for peace of mind else take the risk that comes with the grey ones.

Where do you go to get refurbished bodies?

Just check..and wow...

told yeah!;)

btw, i e-mailed most of the reputable shops about 85L if they could give the same price as with DDE, and most of them replied this...
"our price is $3600(+/-) coz its local set, DDE is not local set thats why their price is low"...

It's funny how they reply u.

Even HKG is not this cheap even when it's a grey considering the fact that Canon stop their green card warranty..

Too bad DD price on 24-70 is just around 300+ off a local set over @ Funan. But nevertheless, DD is a gd place to buy if u have the budget for a 2nd hand lens.At least from DD, u have a shop to make noise at should it fail.

its not sometimes, its most of the time...:bsmilie:

Alot priced high and say "because it is a local set". When asked if still got warranty, answer is "no". :bsmilie:

Can anyone please put a "sticky" and tell these people that there is no difference whether the lens is bought in Singapore or Afghanistan, when they are out of warranty :D When will these people grow up :bsmilie:

this is nightmare for sellers who still sells above what DDE offers..:sticktong

Must support shops that can sell cheaper in here... :D

What would happen if we asked the shop to NOT stamp the international warranty card? (It was mentioned earlier that if the international warranty card was stamped by a Singapore store that the lens would be treated as a parallel import.) Would we then be able to approach Singapore CSC for service?

Secondly, with the Singapore stamped international warranty card, would we be able to get service in Malaysia?

Btw my Canon Intl warranty was not stamp. I guess I can make good use

I have checked with Canon already. International warranty card must be chopped and must have the receipt with purchase date intact. They will only honor warranty in such cases, and it is only for 12 months, no 12+3 months.

It must be from Canon authorised retailers, so DD gears even if got receipt, they also will not honour.

The warranty card must be stamped by an authroized retailer from the region where the lens was assigned to (Canon can track serial number to see which market that specific lens is from), it must also be accompanied with a sales reciept from an authorized retailer from the region the lens was assigned to.

This is the same for Nikon, Canon or anything that comes with international warranty.

In China, they way they do it is this: If a Chinese shop sell you a HK warranty item. The warranty card will be stamped by a HK retailer, and they will also give you a real original receipt from the same HK retailer, even though you are buying in China (Shanghai, in my case).

For warranty products in China, you need to get a tax reciept/invoice (called Fa Piao 发票), with anti-counterfeit features and official stamp, not just any lousy reciept. You will need the officail Warranty card from China as well.

Exactly.Personally i guess most of us would rather get a grey set with 1 year shop than a 2nd hand local set without warranty.

got my 85L yesterday for $2635.20 to be exact!

Sometimes these low prices are due to the fact that the items are factory rejects or off specs sets, thats why no warranty from manufacturer. The defect can be very small or very big, you may never notice in your life time. Can be the physical equipment or can be the box that was damaged.

That's what a camera supplier told me. He was the one supplying some shops with imported defective sets. He further told me that he himself only buy electronic equipment from major departmental store, because he knows which are the shops that take off specs sets to resell.

this is sounds like a conspiracy theory to me
