need views for buying accessories from DD ELECTRONICS?


I collected my faulty 50mm from CSC. The Lens is noisy/jam. Tech repair focusing motor.But during AF still noisy. Cost of repair quoted at sgd180.:bigeyes: I did not proceed of course.

I returned to DD and demanded a replacement of which they agreed (after much hassle they i went thru).I inspected tested the lens all in order. I guess DD did their part a bit too late. But i'm slightly recovered with the new replacement

I hv just found that box incl of manual and to my surprised a Canon International Warranty card.

I'm not too sure if this is applicable in SG? Can anyone share this...
Your English a bit hard to understand. But, from what I can tell:
[1] estimated repair cost from CSC is @$180 which is more than the cost of a new lens. :bsmilie:
[2] DD did honor their 1-to-1 replacement (even after 1 month) which is much better than other local shops that only provide 1-to-1 replacement within 7 days.
[3] your replacement lens has the international warranty card which means your new lens is under Canon international warranty. BTW, did someone misplaced the warranty card of your faulty lens in the first place?

[3] i certainly remembered well and the paper seen was the manual (n the tiny box). i guess it may have been taken out prior to my purchase.

Basically the same. If the warranty card is issued by Canon Singapore, you can get an additional 3 months warranty by registering online so you get 15 months of warranty instead of 12 months. Other than that, no difference.

All lenses come with warranty cards, the issue is something that's imported will have a foreign designated warranty card which means if it's stamped by a Singapore sales agent it will be highlighted as a parallel import and therefore without warranty. The presence of a card does not indicate the presence of a warranty necessarily.

This is an interesting scenario. I always thought Canon Singapore will honor the warranty claim as long as the person can produce a valid international warranty card together with the original receipt. Will be interested to see how CSC handle this kind of warranty claim...
 

If the Internationl Warranty Card is from overseas but receipt is from local store like DD in this case, Canon Singapore will not honour it.

Examples :

1) USA International Warranty Card + Singapore Retail Store receipt = No Warranty, Canon Singapore will treat it as parallel import. DD falls into this category.

2) HK International Warranty Card + HK Retail Store receipt = Warranty recognised by Canon Singapore.

Therefore, do not assume that there is warranty even if there is one in the box.
 

I bought a 50mm f1.8 at sgd130 sometime early dec. Asked on warranty and the ang mo boss says if there is any problem return the lens back to DD.
Being noob I did not notice that package does not incl. canon warranty form. So I trust what he said bluntly.
Just few days ago I was about to use the lens and found the ring a little tight. AF was not working well.And there issome kind of weird rotating sound when AF. I last used the lens end Dec before keeping it.
I return back to DD on late Thursday and spoke to the sales who assured that he will speak to the boss the next day and will see what he can do with it. He promised to call back on fri. Call never come instead I hv to do it. His advice to collect back and send to Canon. I reluctantly pick the lens back y'day and waiting anxiously on Mon to see if CSC can do something about this.
Lesson learned cheap doesn't mean good. This just my bad experience I'm sharing.:thumbsd:

Don't u think the situation could have been much better if u had bring your lappy, camera, take out the lens and check ON THE SPOT, snap some pics and review on the lap in front of the sales person during collection before u make payment ;). Yes there is no int'l warranty for grey set:nono: It is always a matter of cheap price Vs Risk (question is also how cheap), and if we reduce our risk, it may make grey set worth the risk.;)

I will do that if I bought L lenses. Thanks for ya suggestion. I guess my 1st purchase at DD was a sheer bad luck when it malfunction after 2mths.

Secondly, with the Singapore stamped international warranty card, would we be able to get service in Malaysia?

Depends if your item has stock or not iirc.

I bought mine via walk in purchase around DEC last year, 60d+ 24~105, absolutely no problems so far.
 

I have checked with Canon already. International warranty card must be chopped and must have the receipt with purchase date intact. They will only honor warranty in such cases, and it is only for 12 months, no 12+3 months.

It must be from Canon authorised retailers, so DD gears even if got receipt, they also will not honour.
 

just placed an order for 85L, i dont mind if got no warranty. its ~S$1k cheaper than local set... ;)
