hi,

i have bought items from dd before, yes the price is really low and the lowest in Sg i think....so far i have compared prices and none can match the dd electronics pricing...well not all items are low, some are priced higher than the retails shops. you have to do some checking before buying.

Heard those aren''t local sets. Warranty wise - international 1 yr warranty for canon lens.

I bought a 50mm f1.8 at sgd130 sometime early dec. Asked on warranty and the ang mo boss says if there is any problem return the lens back to DD.
Being noob I did not notice that package does not incl. canon warranty form. So I trust what he said bluntly.
Just few days ago I was about to use the lens and found the ring a little tight. AF was not working well. And there issome kind of weird rotating sound when AF. I last used the lens end Dec before keeping it.
I return back to DD on late Thursday and spoke to the sales who assured that he will speak to the boss the next day and will see what he can do with it. He promised to call back on fri. Call never come instead I hv to do it. His advice to collect back and send to Canon. I reluctantly pick the lens back y'day and waiting anxiously on Mon to see if CSC can do something about this.
Lesson learned cheap doesn't mean good. This just my bad experience I'm sharing.:thumbsd:

Seems to me your 50mm f/1.8 carries international warranty otherwise when you send the lens in to CSC, they will inform you it is a chargeable service. In that case, going back to the vendor is just for 1-for-1 exchange normally within 7 days of purchase but in DD's case, I think they are doing this 1-for-1 exchange within 30 days. So, this is actually better than the normal photo stores in SG. Correct if I am wrong.

Is there any way to tell whether the lens (or other equipment you're buying from DDE) come with International Warranty or not?

The problem is there is no warranty card. I somehow feel that I will get charged for this repair at CSC. I'm not too sure if DD has a1-1 exchange policy but is well over 1mth after purchase.

I believe DD is selling gray sets from Australia and USA so without the International warranty card, CSC SG will charge you for the repairs.

DD has advertised a 1-yr shop warranty (you can see that annoying drop down message every where in their website) so they should be the one taking the lens and send it to Canon CSC (or some other service vendors) for repairs at their cost.

Did you ask DD if they are going to pay for the repair? Call them to clarify if the Canon service is chargeable since your lens is still under their supposedly 1-yr shop warranty.

If the lens has international warranty, it should come with a card that stated Canon International warranty with the lens' model and serial no. clearly stated in the card. Then make sure you have an official receipt and with both items, Canon CSC should honor your warranty claims.

you also need to check if they have stock, i order an len and waited for 3 week, in the end i buy another len fron other shop

So whatever the shop says about 1 year warranty is it a BS kind of thing ? I know they take away the warranty card but your experiences tell me that something the risk of getting more expensive stuff is not worth it liao...

To some people, SGD130 with no warranty is fine like a 2nd hand BnS but for items like few thousand dollars, if something like your incident happen, I wonder how much I have to pay to get the item fixed...

Thanks CS for the input.
I was surprise when the DD sales told me that i have to bring to CSC myself.
My plan is to find out from CSC the cost of repair on Monday. Than i let DD knows. If they still insist that i have to pay i cant say anythin :dunno:. I dont wanna push no further i wont return to purchase anythin from them anymore:nono:

I've bought a lens from DD electronics and I remember clearly that the sale person told me if the lens if fautly within the 1 year period, just send the lens back to them with the receipt and they will take care of it.... I believe they told you the same thing and their website also indicate the same thing.
IMO, they already broke their promise then they asked you to send your faulty lens to Canon Svs Center instead of they getting it done for you.
I suggest that you should be firm with DD electronic that they should bear the cost of repair since their website and the sales person indicated that their lens cames with 1 year warranty.
Do update this thread on the outcome.

Local Warranty Terms

All products DD Electronics Pte Ltd sells are brand new and come with warranty 12 months parts and labour except for batteries. If the item you have bought has a manufacturers fault during the first 30 days after purchase we will simply replace it.

As we are a direct importer or parallel importer the responsibility of the warranty belongs fairly with us however many products we do sell come with worldwide warranty provided by the manufacturer so where this worldwide warranty is provided, you can go to the manufacturer directly for service but with any item you need help with you can come directly to us ,we of course are very happy to help you. We have been involved in Direct Importing and handling Digital equipment successfully for many years and we take care of our customers over 60% of our business is repeat customers so if we did not they would not be returning to get more items if they were not satisfied. Our Group as a network of stores and businesses in USA and Australia and are very experienced in looking after customers after sales service needs.

I didn't notice the first paragrah till now.Maybe just been added. However if there are such international warranty than what happen to my warranty card it seems missing from the box?btw I sent to CSC just earlier. Waiting in anticipation of outcome. And DD sales guy is checking with his boss on my request of repair chgs or 1to 1 exchange.

There should be warranty card if they //-import lens from US for example.

That case is, international warranty. It might be a slight mistake from them, but still didn't reflect very good on your slow business ethics. The boss should response ASAP.

IIRC, I read somewhere on this forum that all Canon lenses and flashes come with international warranty and that only bodies come with country based warranties. If this is the case, wouldn't CSC honour the repair as long as the serial number shows within 1 yr of manufacture or your receipt is within 1 yr of the date you brought it in?

The thing is if it is a grey set...
No International nor local warranty.

Wah, ang mo here also trying out SimLim tactics.....

I collected my faulty 50mm from CSC. The Lens is noisy/jam. Tech repair focusing motor. But during AF still noisy. Cost of repair quoted at sgd180. I did not proceed of course.

I returned to DD and demanded a replacement of which they agreed (after much hassle they i went thru).I inspected tested the lens all in order. I guess DD did their part a bit too late. But i'm slightly recovered with the new replacement

I hv just found that box incl of manual and to my surprised a Canon International Warranty card.

I'm not too sure if this is applicable in SG? Can anyone share this...
