It can take teleconverters, but AF might not work cuz the effective fstop might be too high. Someone here tried a 2x tc on and AF didn't work, cuz at telephoto, aperture is f11 already. [/B]

According to Canon website in US, http://www.usa.canon.com/eflenses/lineup/supertelephoto/index.html the 75-300 cannot use the original canon teleconverters. It can however, use third party teleconverters.

BTW Tweek, is yours the USM or non-USM version?

Manual Focus?

Was the photo scanned at 300dpi?

Thanks again :)

non-USM version, autofocus, scanned at 300 dpi and downsampled. :)

Thanks for the help, Tweek and crazyhorse!

Check this out...

Someone selling the USM version for $250!

Thanks AdamGoi!

wahaha early bird catch the wyrm...
all I can say is: WAH the frickin DOF is worth the price alone! my 2100UZ cannot get the 300mm's f5.6 DOF with its f2.8...
WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH now to decide when strike lottery to get IS or f2/2.8 hahahaha...

shake like CRAZY man... Alzheimer accelerator.... (sorry)

denizex, do u mean me? The Sigma 70-300mm I've got? Will know later in the evening when I collect the prints... hopefully turn out good (since it was not easy to hold it without a tripod). I know, should not expect too much if not taken with tripod at 300mm. Just wanted to really tryout how steady I can hand hold it. Will need the stability when I go for my outdoor shooting later on.

Halo.. I am a total newbie in photography, browsing thru clubsnap really pumped me up with lots of info.

Anyway, have some question that might sounds stupid to you guys, but can any kind soul enlighten me? Thanks.

1) Why are some lens more exp whilst some cheaper? I initially tot that lens with wider range will be more expensive, but from the posts it seems to be wrong. So what should i look @ for a lens?
2) What is USM?
3) I read some posts on 50mm lens, is it good? why is it better than some of the lens with wider range? such as 28-80mm?

Thanks.

Cheers:D

chop chop one..

zoom range increase price, the max aperture increase more, ceteris paribus.

USM == unsharp mask... hahahahahahaha
if refering to canon lens it means the lens will AF faster than non-USM on same body...\
else it's really unsharp mask in photoshop, for making pic slightly more contrasty.

50mm is a >prime< lens, i.e. no zoom. good because the design is more straightforward so that image quality is better than a zoom of >similar price<. some say MUCH better but I not sure.

I just got a 50mm f1.8 and yes i think it is MUCH better than my old 80-200 f2.8, which is still more expensive than the 50mm. The 50mm is sharper and more contrasty.

USM is ultra sonic motor. :p

More silent and faster motor.

looks rather soft in low light conditions... btw why use NPH 400 for this kind of shots

GREATLY recommend tripod or IS...

ermm.. do you think it's possible that this shot was taken without a tripod at 30secs exposure?

no doubt must be mounted on tripod, hee

:D :dunno: :D

oppss...sorry forgot to mention....hehe...so much info

was using SLIK Able 300DX tripod + RS60-E3 Remote Control .

That's the only roll of film I had with me at that time. So had to make do with it ...

What film do you reccommend for night time photography?

For slides,Provia 400F is ok right?

Cheers,
Allan
