combat vocation is never slack.

if u end up as clerk...my advise is : never become mobilisation clerk. that job can die one. but i respect those clerk who know how to do their job well

Well, I have been a mobilisation clerk before... damn siong as compared with other clerks.. somemore in an active unit... getting breath down the neck by both your own unit and the bridage...

To think that you are actually thinking of upgrading, I would guess that you are the active sort of guy. However, should consider carefully as you have double vision and it might affect your range results.. Worst still, cannot pass keep going for reshoot.. ;p

To be a clerk is not that bad. You get to learn a lot of things too.. At least you will know how the army works more than the combat pple. May even get to see lots of sensitive or secret stuff... ;p

excellent point! or even worse... he could end up shooting his neighbor's target a dozen times and not realize until someone starts kicking him in the helmet and yelling at him to "WAKE UP YOUR F****** IDEA!" :bsmilie:

no offence lah... but with double vision, you may very well become your platoon's "sotong king"

There's also section/platoon live firing.......dun play play huh.

come to think of it...I love my reservist.. less stress than working
To me its a holiday camp and meet my good buddies...y stress over reservist?

A good opportunity to shape up too, normal days too lazy for any form exercise and usually end of the ICT i will put on weight..keke

And a good excuse of not mreting gf for some? haha!!

Just highlight your eye problems to your instructors. As long as you are determined to shoot they should let you, i think.

i have no opinion about your decision in the end.

personally i feel that if i can be pes A, so be it. if i can bear arms and fight i will.

I started pes A, went thru the whole enhanced BMT, Schools, Combat training.
I broke some bones during service and became pes C, revocated to clerk.
The moment my bone healed, I volunteered for upgrade to pes A... alas can only go to B because of this injury record. My MO was very reluctant to upgrade me... kept asking me if i am sure thats what i want.

I have never regretted my decision, even after quite a few **** ICT. I am convinced i made the right decision. I am proud to be able to bear arms for my country. (BTW, I do not look down on those who do not or rather cannot)

I am not in a position to judge anybody....
You must decide yourself if you WANT to bear arms and fight for your country.
You must decide youself if you physically CAN.
Of course, do not push yourself if you have medical condition that may endanger yourself.

If you want to bear arms and fight but are not sure if you can, discuss with your MO your condition, if you can he will let you.

Last but not least train safely and know your own limit.

Why care so much about others opinion?

I have a classmate who was a CMPB clerk during his NS, no need reservice. Average fitness, I believe he hasn't tried 2.4km run since his school days.

Now driving a Mazda 6 (try to be low profile) and have about $20k per month income. He is 28.

Please tell me whose going to look down on him?

PLease be thinking long term. National Defence can be social, military, econmics etc of 5 aspect in Total defence.

Just play the part well where you can best contribute. My friend played a small part in the military defence, but right now he's contributing much more in the economics aspect.

Wow.... Do you mind telling us what occupation your friend has? He's in business?

hmm.

everybody's important.

whatever your vocation, whatever you're doing, be it you chiong or you're a clerk, whatever you do is vital to the everyday running of your unit.

yes, a clerk is perceived more slack, but don't take perception as your own till you've experienced it. it can get really busy sometimes.

if you ask me, i'd personally say stick with being your pes E. you'll know the benefits in 2 years time.

absolutely!! a time where u can get away from work and gf to for a meet up session with my mates.. plus the extra money from ippt and range is good money too..
if u can look thru the viewfinder without double vision affecting your shooting, i dun see how it can affect your shooting..
:dunno: :dunno:

That is actually a good training to the working life. :bsmilie:

IMO, just accept your pes status you won't regret it. Learn whatever you can from there. Can be useful in a way when you step into the working life.

But 1st of all must take it positive. Don't ever say you'll be wasting your 2yrs there being a clerk( if you should become 1).

If you positively accept what you are given, then you can have a better attitude to gain experience.

For adventures, physical training....plenty of opportunities later in your life after you ORD....better still, you can plan you own rather than planned by someone else.

IMO, either put me through the harshest training.....or just put me through the least physical demanding

those were my thoughts exactly when i went thru my NS......i was always one of the more active kids in school, and among my group of friends i was the only Pes A everyone else Pes E.......my best bud always joked that we would be posted to the commandoes together but 2 weeks before his bmt he tore the ligament in his knee badly and kena downgraded straight away....

but thats besides the point......i always believed that i should strive to be the best that i can be in what ever i do, and so when i was in tekong(old school tekong not the new one), there was word going ard that NDU was looking for recruits.....so i spoke to my PC about it, went for the medical, got thru and one 32 degree day during the dreaded bayonet training a clerk came running down the slope and spoke to the Sgt, i had 1 hr to pack my bags and leave on the first ferry to NDU......

most of my friends said i was crazy, some of the guys who kena mono intake straight into NDU though i was insane to volunteer to be posted there, but in the end after everything was done i was the one who made the decision and i'm happy about it.......

hi all i just got my PES grading its E1L3. anywant knows what it means?

do i have any obligation for reservist training? i got this grade due to partial double vision. i could upgrade to a B grade if i really want but should i? if i want i must appeal fast...

oh do i need to stay in camp for NS?
wad things can PES E do other than clerk?

none of my friends are PES E or know of anyone in army who's a PES E...

need some advice urgently...
thnks

It depends. The grass is always greener on the other side.
Combat vocations are generally mindless workouts.. Once you get accustommed to the work you have to do, it becomes a mindless routine.

Clerical duties are more taxing on the mind. Also, the paperwork can be extremely easy but very tedious and boring. You can be slacking the whole day away and be burdened the entire of the next. Depending on your vocation and unit, you might still have to serve orderly duties.

Do note that not all units give Pes E personnel stay-out priviledges. Some units like mine (Bridging Engr) require you to have medical reasons like back problems or any major inconveniences before you get stay-out.

No one gets "8 to 5" in my unit, superiors are sometimes obliged to keep stay-out personnel up to 10pm before letting them off. It's called "stay-out", not "8 to 5". Do remember that. (Moral: Don't piss your boss off!)

When you do get an interview of sorts, you can mention talents like computer skills and/or photography skills. It can affect your posting. Some units like mine sometime require such talents and do specially request CPC to post people in with the apporpriate talents.
My understudy was one of them. Except he couldn't handle cameras and computer hardware well. So those areas are still under my charge.

Do have fun. If you choose to upgrade, I hope you get a better vocation that I do. I tried both combat (Recce) and non-combat (S2PA) vocations so I can say, I prefer clerical duties. LOL.. Not as mundane as my current combat vocation.

hi thanks for all the reply. i've talked to my father and some ppl about it. i've decided to stay as PES E. i hope to get 8-5 cos my father (regular officer) told me that pes e usually get 8-5 and i might use the time to do sth useful. :) at least i dun have to be physically tired. i guess that i just have to accpet being looked down and laughed at by my classmates...

Hey mate , you took the RED pill huh? Good that you came to a decision and good luck. Don't worry about being laughed at, I'm sure most of your friends would be envious and you will be off them when they tell you their stories. The grass is always greener on the other side.

But do the best you can and be happy yeah? You have been given the gift of time , make full use of it . ;)

i assure you. no one will laugh at you.
its unfortunate that your father is an officer though... you should have said so earlier

nobody will laugh at you. just serve the nation in the best way you can.
