hi guys,

i would like to venture into slides and would like to acquire a loupe and lightbox set to view my developed slides. But, i know next to nothing on these stuff. Can someone recommend me a cheap combo? My budget...as low as possible. :p Still 18 year old, not much to spray around.

Thanks!!

Regards

Oops, can't edit.

I would also like to know more about lightboxes and loupes, please do whack me with info that i must know. :)

thank u!

Get daylight correted ones like kaiser slimlite panel ... get a fairly good loupe ... else you will get a splitting headache.

It should cost a total of $110 brand new for a fairly usable combo/

Oh a/c adaptor for the light box or panel is important ...

:D

thank u thank u.

I am grateful. Did a large scale search on CS forums, and found that the kaiser slimlite is pretty recommended. Thus, i think i would be getting that. As for the loupe, i was thinking of second hand. :p

Any recommended 4x-6x loupe?

Alright, my budget? max out at $100.

Thank u guyz

Uhmm ... I think a not bad one will be PEAK 8X ... the ones found at RGB.

Around $50 ... ?

Kaiser slimlite panel should be $65. a/c adaptor: $20.

You only have $15 left ... you can get a PEAK plastic loupe for that price.

I see..would a 8x loupe be able to view my 35mm full? would it be too close?

Is a ac adaptor absolutely necessary? Any qualms if i decide to get my lightbox w/o the ac, and spend abit more on a better loupe?

Does TCW sell these stuff 2nd hand?

thanks!

How about making your own lightbox and using a spoilt 50mm lens ? :)

Nope, a 4X will allow that ... 8X is however good for critical checking. If you are only getting one loupe, I suggest a higher magnification 8X and above ...

Save $20 now and waste it on batteries, not discounting if you have weak batteries you lose a stop or two of light for viewing ... you may want to use your computer monitor to view instead.

Nope.

Just my 2 cents ... it is rather subjective to what you should get ... there are other factors too ...

good idea ...

Icic..most probably i will be getting a dedicated loupe and lightbox. i do not own a 50mm lens. =)

Alright, thank u for all inputs!

Arigato!

Just one last advise ... either go for a good set ... which cost $150 ++ if you really require it for critical checking ... if not ... go for a shoestring budget; a combo that cost less than $40 ... a plastic loupe and a uncorrected light box ... don't save on the a/c adaptor ... hope it helps ... the spliting headache is not a joke ...

yes sir! Yep, heard of people complaining of headaches while viewing. Is the viewing area very small for the loupes?

It is not the viewing area ... that is causing the headache but the quality of the loupe ... i'm not too sure of the term ... but the edges of the viewable areas are blurry and somehow a lousy loupe may direct light inaccurately to your eyes ... it's hard to describe ... maybe someone on this forum can assist ...

I see. will keep your advices in mind. :)

You will understand what I mean ... when you compare the cheapest setup with a moderately priced setup ... I iterate again:

Combo 1: GEPE Slimlite Panel + Schneider 4X loupe-$400?
Combo 2: Cabin Slimlite Panel + Rodenstock 4X loupe-$200
Combo 3: Kaiser Slimlite Panel + PEAK 8X loupe-$110
Combo 4: Uncorrected Light Box + plastic loupe-$40

Rough estimate ...
combo 1-3 please add another $20 for a/c adaptor

Please dun flame me ... if not 100% correct ... :embrass:

thank u for the specific eg.
Most probably i would be going for combo 3, if no good 2nd hand offer comes in my way. :)

for ac adaptor, i would be getting it. :) Want to give my eyes a break. Heheh

a/c adaptor won't affect your eyes but the loupe will.
a/c adaptor saves on battery and a longer viewing duration without changing batteries and you get a constant brightness less the bulb is aging ... ;)

Slides, here i come!!!
haha..let myself sidetrack abit,

i heard that slides are cheaper on the long run. Really?

yes ... if you don't intend to print it reqularly. If you print it regularly ... negatives are cheaper but digital is now the cheapest ...

okay minus B&W.

Really, alot depends on your usage ...
