Cheaper only since you dont need to print them out to view them.

Yeah. Don't intend to print. Unless im really satisfied on one shot. :)

satisfied on one shot

You won't print it too, for no reason. Friend you have any idea how much is one S8R print from slide?

how bout this..shoot slides..
Den if there's a shot that you are satisfied with, scan it with a quality dedicated film scanner and make a digital print?

There will definitely be quality lost ... if you need the critical sharpness and color quality ... you got to pay for the print ...

If you are just printing 4R then there is no issue ... a scan and digital print will suffice.

Ya I'm saying 4r and below..if he wants to print larger, it'd be more worthwhile quality-wise I suppose, to do a print from the slide..

Well, i don't know about the price of a S8R printout. But i do know that a 4R from slides is $1. So i can imagine the high cost.

Its no joke when you compare a Rodenstock lupe (>$190) vs any other lupe less than $190. Go to CP and bring your own slides. Use their variety of lupes and see for yourself how an expensive lupe makes a difference to your enjoyment of slides. Surely you don't want your viewing of slides to become a torture.

For your info ... it is $20 for a S8R print from slide.

Do you intend to get a slide projector? If you do ... you just need the cheapest loupe and light box available ...

$20 is a high price! But if a person really have a good shot, i don't think anyone would scrimp on that (unfortunately, i do not have a single shot that warrant me to do so. )

Nope, not going for a slide projector. Would like to get on hold of my loupe set first and try more slides, before i decide whether or not i should get a film scanner. :)

Anyone know the price of the leica p150 projector? izzit still selling in the shops?

You will understand what I mean ... when you compare the cheapest setup with a moderately priced setup ... I iterate again:

Combo 1: GEPE Slimlite Panel + Schneider 4X loupe-$400?
Combo 2: Cabin Slimlite Panel + Rodenstock 4X loupe-$200
Combo 3: Kaiser Slimlite Panel + PEAK 8X loupe-$110
Combo 4: Uncorrected Light Box + plastic loupe-$40

Rough estimate ...
combo 1-3 please add another $20 for a/c adaptor

Please dun flame me ... if not 100% correct ... :embrass:

If you want a really good loupe, get the Schneider. Rodenstock is good but when compared side by side with a Schneider, you'll see the difference in quality.

On a budget? Try the plastic foldable Kaiser. The Schneider is ~$200; the Kaiser ~$25. Of course it is not as good as Schneider, but with the great difference in price, I'd say it's bang for your buck. It's also very portable.

When both Rodenstock and Kaiser are compared to the Schneider, the Kaiser is real value for your money. Both marginally lesser in terms of quality, but the Kaiser is much cheaper.

Just sharing from my own experience because I have used all three side by side.

just bought last week too as i am new to slides too

my combo is

Kaiser slimlite $65
Kaiser Lupe 8x $12.

:-)
