Need advise for Pentax DA* 300

actually, i have 2 the 35 and the 100...

but the DA*300 opens up interesting possibilities... there are times when i really wish i can have more reach, esp when taking touchy insects... very irritating to be chasing dragonflies up and down.

or maybe i'm just doing it all wrong and this is just an excuse to buy another lens :bsmilie:

Agree, this lens is not cheap, before the price increases it was like $17xx.

I know Tamron 180mm Pentriot has it. Saw him with it on Zoo outing. Can ask him to try2see2. hehehe.

Pentax A series is never cheap, in ebay I see all the price damn expensive. Though I saw that A300 f2.8, someone put as bidding. the bid price already 1.7k and rising.

My 180mm Macro is not a Tam but a Sig.
Brought it to the HortPark outing last Saturday.

Yes, I've contacted Emjay. The sales guy said whatever Pentax Japan website have, they can bring in upon order.
But I can't seems to find in Japan website. :dunno:

If you know someone going to Japan. The 1.7x teleconverter can be bought new from shop. Around $350 only. Don't go paying the extremely high prices on ebay if you can avoid it.

Seems cheaper than Sigma. Sigma Singpaore quoted me $488 for thier 1.4x but need to pay deposit for them to order.

I have one of these Pentax 1.7X TC. Bought it from Amazon Japan few months back when there was a thread on this here.

While it is fun to try it with manual lens (for semi AF), It does impact the IQ quite a bit.

I am not sure, if it will work for SDM lens for full AF. You might still have to do partial manual focus for the TC to get in close enough for AF. Seems the elements in the TC move to get focus locked. I do not have any SDM lens so maybe I am wrong also

There is a seller in Pentax forum that sells a Kenko 1.5x TC regularly that suppose to work for SDM lens. He mention that it should work for SDM but no gurantees,

Anyway...if you want to just try the Pentax TC out if it works for DA*300. Let me know, we can see if there is any mutually convenient opportunity to do so,

How much did you pay for the TC & what lens are you using with?
I understand with TC will degrade IQ but not too bad wth good lens.
Yes, the kenko 1.5x TC works with SDM & AF but abit slow in AF speed.

The Pentax 1.7x TC works on any K mount lens and works best with F/4.5 or faster lens. It works with DA*300, however there is no screw drive AF and SDM. Just switch the lens to MF, do a MF to focus close on the subject, half press shutter and the Pentax 1.7x TC will do the focus on the subject.

Sorry Ken...Getting a bit old...cannot remember the exact price. It was fairly good if I recalled maybe 20K Yen (est). It was pointed out by another pentaxian (who I also cannot remember) in a thread here some months back . Darn memory is really failing.

Tried it with manual lens K300f4 and also K55f1.8. Even tried it with DA55-300mm. It worked for this lens.
