DA* magic.

And you shot a fairly close up, 1/30s shot with a 300mm handheld? Your hand-holding technique rock solid already lah!

I have afew shots with the mozzie inside, looks like the skink doesn't bother.

This shot okay lah, dun really show the potential of the lens.
My buddy with DAL 55-300 has the same shot with similar sharpness. That said, the DAL 55-300 is a good lens.
This chap was as if part of the rock, never move at all, so we were able to snap very close (within a meter), we squatted down & locked our elbow & rest on the knee.
If were to base on 1/(focal length x crop factor) shutter speed, we would have to up the iso to 3200/6400. :sweatsm:

2500 views ! More interest in the DA*300mm than I thought. When I posted some pics earlier this year, not many views. I guess the subject matter wasn't too interesting ;-)

Anyway, thought I will help keep the interest going by showcasing the magnification power of this lens. Following is a series of pics taken from the same spot, camera tripod mounted all at f8.0 The baseline pic (no. 1) is taken with the FA50 1.4. Sorry still no birdie pics yet. Hope to get to that soon....

What do you guys think? Worth investing in this lens, Pentax's most expensive current lens ?? I wonder how the DA55-300mm compares ???

2. 300mm uncropped. Batam Island in the background.

3. 300mm 100% cropped. A bit of haze but can still clearly make out the vessel name. If you look closely, can
also see the exhaust/heat wave from the exhaust stack. By my estimate, this ship is at least 3 km away !

4. 300mm uncropped. This is the vessel on the left (in pic 1), closest to shore.

5. 300mm 100% cropped.

Thanks zoom3 for the comparison shots of 100% cropped pics vs uncropped. :)
Due to the haze, it doesn't show the potentiol of this lens.
Hope to see your birdie shots soon. ;)

The bird pictures are very poisonous!

Bird Pics are at f4 ? Very sharp... wow...

Damns, this lens is really haunting.

Joining me?

After using Normal Calculator,Scientific Calculator & Finally Abacus. I still find this lens is way above my budget. :bsmilie:

This kind of shots u should be using macro lens or maybe u already have one? ;p

actually, i have 2 ;) the 35 and the 100...

but the DA*300 opens up interesting possibilities... there are times when i really wish i can have more reach, esp when taking touchy insects... very irritating to be chasing dragonflies up and down.

or maybe i'm just doing it all wrong and this is just an excuse to buy another lens :bsmilie:
