Need a bag to shoot out of.

why not get a timbuk2 medium messenger bag for about $100, and some inserts for $20? i've gone this route and sold off all my crumplers - which were making holes in my trousers, literally!

i am also quite heavily invested in TT pouches and belts, so i just put everything in my timbuk2 and do away with inserts. and when you need to go to school, just take those pouches out and you're off!

i like how i can bring my work stuff and still have space for a camera and lens

If I'm going to school and just bringing a camera for fun, I'll bring my ungripped 400D + lens in a chimp cage inside my own thin profile eastpak backpack, so that's not an issue.

The thing now is that I will have to decide between a shoulder bag or a sling / quick access backpack, i.e. Domke vs Kata 3n1 series / Lowepro Flipside 300AW.

Ok Domke's are no go for me now. Finally told myself that it's not worth the price, esp locally. Ebay price still ok, but I don't wanna go through all the trouble.

Can someone actually shoot out of the Kata 3n1-20 bag? Lens changes and all. Lets say change with 2 lenses.

And can the 3n1-20 fit a 70-200?

and @ antacid: I have problems even getting a normal bag that can fit my 1 series face down with lens.

have you taken a look over at beach road?
get a suitable bag you want and foam protect it yourself

we can gather and do a group purchase and share the shipping

The stitching quality there for most can't really compare to real camera bag companies such as lowepro, think tank and domke.

Wouldn't mind. Will update this thread after I go look at some domke's tmr at CP.

Consider this bag, the Domke F-6.

http://www.amazon.com/Domke-F-6-Lit...6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1260286282&sr=1-6

It will cost under $120 SGD. Really dirt cheap for a Domke.

Need to account for shipping which will be irritating.

Just went looking the whole day at Cathay Photo today, and here are my comments:

All domkes: Insert compartments too small. Only primes will fit nicely. No go.

Kata 3n1-20: Can't fit my bottle or 70-200 in any way. Might get this as a daypack bag next time.

Kata 3n1-30: Not bad, too big for me to shoot out of, lens changes difficult. No go.

Flipside 300: Tried and failed. Can't fit a 1 series nicely without 70-200 attached and still have space for customising other inserts.

Think Tank UD35: Best of the whole lot. But pockets a bit deep for me to shoot primes out of. Comments?

yes the domke bags are a different breed, not to be compared with normal stiff padding bags
you will be surprised what you can put into one

So anyway, I reserved a Crumpler 7MDH today for cheap, getting it tomorrow. The logic is that if it works for me, I'll keep it, and if it doesn't, I'll sell to my friend and continue searching.

Thanks for all the help!

Heh hehhh. Not bad. Comfy enough, but the shoulder pad sucks. Any idea where to get good strap-on (velcro) shoulder pads? I'll use the crumpler one for my tripod bag.

Domke's the most comfy... But the common Crumpler ones used on the other bags are good too.
