The character's creation was inspired by a rejected design for Kylo Ren. Not originally conceived as a woman, Captain Phasma was changed from a male to female character during casting, less than three weeks before principal of the movie shooting began.

Poe Dameron and BB-8 (his astromech droid) were sent on a mission to the planet Jakku to retrieve part of a map that will lead to the location of Luke Skywalker. He is captured by the First Order and later saved by the renegade stormtrooper Finn - both escaping in a TIE fighter and later crashing on planet Jakku - and so the story goes.....
