The Flakpanzer Gepard radar and gun system operates at an optimum range of 3000 to 4000m, making it ideal for engaging low altitude anti-tank helicopters. The vehicle is based on a slightly modified chassis of the main battle tank Leopard 1 (see below picture).

The initial plan was to base the Flakpanzer Gepard as closely as possible on the Leopard 1 tank chassis. Nevertheless, some adjustments had to be made. First the rear of the hull had to be extended to provide room for extra batteries.

31916546800_5e49764c99_o.jpg

Also the chassis of the Leopard 1 was extended by 8 cm. The wheels further received new shock absorbers, providing better stability for the Flakpanzer Gepard when firing.

The vehicle also received an auxiliary engine which powers the electric generator. This engine is accessible through a hatch on the front deck.

Comparing with Dragon Armor...

The British Challenger 1 was the main battle tank (MBT) of the British Army from 1983 to the mid-1990s, when it was superseded by the Challenger 2.

Challenger 2 is an extensive re-design of the Challenger 1. Although the hull and automotive components seem similar, they are of a newer design and build than those of the Challenger 1.

34789445071_3313ceeac2_o.jpg

The Challenger 2 has seen operational service in Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq. Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) kits can be fitted for added protection as the model below shows.

Explosive Reactive Armour consists of a slab of explosive sandwiched between 2 plates and upon penetration the explosive detonates and the plates push apart - damaging the incoming projectile.

Nothing change for the past 70 years since WW2 - the concepts are still very much the same.....

The T-34/76 medium tank was mounted with the M1940 F-34 76 mm Soviet gun. A modified version of the gun, the 76 mm tank gun M1941 ZiS-5 was used on KV-1 heavy tank.

In 1943, the thick armor of the new German Tiger and Panther tanks had rendered the F-34 gun obsolete.

Once considered a premium tank by the Russian military establishment, T-80s suffered savage losses to lightly armed guerrillas during the First Chechen War. The tank’s reputation never recovered.

22756277848_c21905009e_o.jpg

The Chechen rebels’ combat prowess–and poor Russian tactics–was more responsible for the T-80’s losses than the inherent design. Though, it did have one major flaw - the T-80 was too expensive and guzzled too much fuel. The Russian military soon grew to favor the more economical T-72 series instead.

"Chibi" Alien

AliensA.jpg

Alien is a 1979 American science-fiction horror film of a highly aggressive extraterrestrial creature that stalks and kills the crew of a spaceship. Alien received both critical acclaim and box office success. The success of Alien spawned a media franchise of novels, comic books, video games, and toys.

Aliens.jpg

This model is a "Chibi" styled Alien model. "Chibi" is a Japanese slang word meaning "short person" or "small child".

Aliens-1.jpg

Aliens-2.jpg

In anime and manga, the term "Chibi" has mostly been conflated with the "super deformed" style of drawing characters with oversized heads or it can be used to describe "child versions" of characters.

Chibi style is usually used in depicting scenes which are cute and/or humorous.
