My try on RAW and after editing with SilkyPro.. Went out early morning with wife to take some shots.. was at the Changi Boardwalk but the stench of dead fishes was unbearable...no thanks to the inconsiderate fisherboys.. Saw a guy with a DSLR (i think 30D) there...not sure if he's from here...but if he is, 'Hi' to you brudder!;)

Hi anybody got any comments which is a better buy ? (camera). I tested Ricoh GX 100 and I thought that it was quite grainy. No experience with LX 2.

Thanks

Hi Onyx.

If the GX100 is anything like the GR-D, then the noise/grain is designed to look similar to film grain (which to me is pleasing and helps give images that film-like quality that i miss).

The LX-2 noise looks exactly like . . . noise. ;) And the occasional dappled watercolour effect. :bsmilie:

As to which is a better buy, perhaps an indication of your usage, expectations, and previous cameras, would help us answer the question.

Hope it helps.

Thks Luq, I hope I have not OT on this thread. My apologies if I did.

I am shooting with a DSLR and realise you can't hv it with you all the time; at times it frightens away the subject with such a huge setup. So am looking for a good portable compact camera to carry all the time. Have been looking at LX-2, Leica Lux-3 and the GX 100.

So any more advices?

thanks

Took some photos inside Changi airport that have fluorescent light. I put the ISO to 400 and the photos came out like watercolor.;(

This is not the first time that it happened.

Tried my Sony P8, everything looks fine.

My experience has been:

If you're shooting JPEG, up to ISO 200 you're still ok. The watercolour effect kicks in when you start shooting at ISO 400.

If you're shooting in RAW, then it doesn't really matter.

Oh, and the difference in JPEG ISO200 and JPEG ISO400 is like night and day. :D So, like I said before, if you know exactly what the limitations are, you won't have a problem working around it.

Hey Onyx, sorry for the late reply.

I think you should seriously consider the GX-100.

Cheers.
