i get it now...thanks!
the rest is up to you to decide, but between the 2 models (LX2 and 850IS), its no doubt LX2 for me... unique 16:9 native sensor/LCD and full manaul mode. price are pretty close as well.

there is always the new TZ3 with 200mm zoom ...:p

one thing abt Panasonic is the noisy pictures though...

canon wins it def..

wide angle lens and format have got are not really related... but if you use LX1/2 to shoot in 4:3 or 3:2 you might not get the full wideness of 28mm since they are actaully cropped from the original 16:9 that give 28mm view.

read under aspect ratio;;

i dont really understand.. but if it adds to the confusion...

if im not wrong, it simply mean they designed the sensor to be larger, so even when you shoot a crop of 16:9, 3:2 or even 4:3(sld be a crop from the sensor 8.5MP), you still get a view from a 28mm lens... where as most other camera for eg, give you 28mm view on 4:3, so changing to 3:2 they will actually crop it off from the 4:3 ratio thus you get slightly lesser than 28mm

if you look at the image size of tz3 and fz8
tz3:
4:3 - 3072 x 2304
3:2 - 3216 x 2144
16:9 -3328 x 1872

fz8:
4:3 - 3072 x 2304
3:2 - 3072 x 2048
16:9 - 3072 x 1728

you can see that the fz8 have less pixels due to cropping while the tz3 get roughly the same pixels on all formats

Hi.
I have a Kodak V610 for sale. Used for only 1 week. Are you still interested?

Taken last night.

Hi guys.

I've really been smitten with the LX2 bug. Been agonizing over it for over 3 weeks now but have been resisting the urge to get it due to the NR artefacts. Can anyone share a randomly shot RAW file with me at ISO200 and ISO400? I really need to convince myself that the details isn't going to be as bad as what was on Dpreview . . .

Also, any one of you used a G7 before? I would have gotten that instead but it lacks a wideangle.

A GX100 or GRD would be ideal, but I lack the dosh needed for those.

Any help would be very much appreciated please. Thanks!

my friend who shoots professionally uses the g7. he likes it for the fact that the camera is expandable. For e.g he could attached a flash gun to it and as for the limiting widest angle of the camera, he bought a wide angle adapter to it. And since he used mostly canon stuff, dslrs for example, he has the system to back it up. I'm using a lx1 and I like it. Didn't know it had a noise issue or didn't notice until I read the forum. I print many of my images, without post processing and i can't tell the difference between the one shot using my dslrs and the lx1. So I guess the lx2 should be much better... re the noise issue.

what kinda subject woud you like to view at ISO200 and 400 RAW? maybe i give you some test pics?

Hey,

Thanks nsalman and eejal. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I already bought the LX2 on Sunday. Darn, I thought no one was going to reply my questions. :)

Anyways, I was agonizing over the G7 and the LX2 for a few hours, but ended up with the LX2 anyways. The G7 is quite a bit more hefty and bulky. Add to the fact that the LCD kept flickering . . . well, I guess I was won over by the chic look of the LX2 - shallow as that may sound. I guess I am REALLY tired of lugging around anything resembling an SLR - too many years of that.

Anyways, still trying to get used to the image quality and esp the flash . . . am actually thinking of selling it off to a mate and just get the GX100 now - but after I saw the thread on the GX100, I'm of the opinion that it isn't that much better IQ-wise, so it would be a lot of hassle for a minor image improvement.

Either way, I'm REALLY missing my 5D now . . . sigh.

p.s. anyone knows if there is an underwater casing for the LX2?

hey bro...no worries man. the reason why i bought the LX-2 is because of its compactness. Could have gotten the Fuji F30 that time but the Leica lens was a temptation. I'm a newbie in DC so it serves as a startup for me. nonetheless hope to see your pics soon bro....(if you don't mind posting)

After seeing so many positive reviews and user experience here, it's very tempering to buy this digitial camera. Anyone knows whether any computer fair is coming perhaps can get a good bargin during the show. ;p

u mean tempting?

heheh..it depends on what are your requirements actually. I can't possibly say its good, bla bla without knowing what you want to use it for..

so far i've no regrets getting this cam.. :bsmilie:

not sure if you can get a good price in the pc show. maybe others might be able to advice you on this..

pc show is good if u want to get memory cards, ram etc. not realli for camera deals. i feel that big shops like ms color, AP etc can at least match the deal or give u a better one. furthermore, u will be stuck in one booth, cant compare more cameras side by side.

eow - Bought it for 690 with 2Gb SD.

eejal - No worries bro. Will try and post some up once I get over the baby-taking photo phase. :D Yea, the compactness was also a factor for me. It would have been nice tho, to have a built in lens cover that would open once the camera powers up, and for the lens barrel to not have to extend at 28mm. Then it would look like a mini-M4 with a 35 pancake (minus the focusing tab). :embrass: I'm still doing some tests to see how good the vario-elmarit really is - but I guess I have to be realistic and not compare it to the 35mm sized counterparts.

Star-flog -The LX2 is one of those cameras that you need to know what you're getting into. Its not a very versatile camera due to the NR artefacts with JPG and the noise when you shoot RAW - meaning you can't really shoot higher than ISO200 without worrying about NR/noise at the back of your head. If you never ever print larger than 5R, that probably wouldn't matter tho. I bought it knowing fully well what its achilles heel was and am focused on getting around it. Plus, I am used to shooting only RAW and processing, so that helps quite a lot (altho I can't use C1 Pro anymore with the LX2!!).

Anyone knows how to control the LX2 flash? I've tried almost everything I can think of. Usually when I set the flash to compensate -2, it works ok. But with the LX2, even when I set the WB to current light, and then shoot with -2, it turns tungsten-y. Any idea? Only at close to full output does it equalize - but its too strong. Thanks.

Hi Luq, thanks for the advice.
S$690 with 2Gb SD is a good buy, I should start to search around to hunt for one.
I have a Sony cyber-shot digital years ago but thinking it's time to do a serious upgrade. Have been planning to buy SLR Nikon D40 but like this little beauty for its form factor.
Also consider FX-30 but the price difference between LX2 is not that great, that makes LX2 more tempting now. ;)
