Looking at the colour of the clouds, it does appear that the glaciers are blue.

Foe those that are too blue, it is due to the white balance(WB). You can get a white balance filter and set custom white balance during shooting, or shoot in raw and adjust during post processing.

Thanks for information. I didnt think of shooting in RAW then as I was still new to Photgraphy. (still not shooting in RAW !) What you mean "set custom white balance"?
I was curious so I googled why are glaciers blue. Here is the answer for those who are keen to learn more.

"Snow and uncompacted ice, usually younger ice, has a lot of trapped air, usually in the form of small bubbles and between crystal layers. These scatter and reflect all colors of light and the result is a white color you see in snow and in the younger ice near the top of a glacier. In new ice and snow the light cannot penetrate or travel very far through the ice but gets reflected out pretty fast.

In older ice, either in a glacier or in the polar icepack, the air get compressed out and escapes, fewer bubbles and less scattering. The light can now travel through the transparent ice and a another effect, absorption, takes over. Water preferentially absorbs light at the red end of the spectrum, letting the blue light pass on through. Divers know this, as you descend into deep water the red light dissapears and the blue light is what is left, the result is odd colors when you are under more than a few feet of water. In ice the color absorption shifts a bit due to the crystal structure but the effect is the same.

Deep blue ice is also harder, tougher ice, a fact well known to artic explorers. It takes longer to melt as it has larger crystals. Try old glacier ice in you evening cocktail if you get a chance! Thus, clear old glacier ice gets that beautiful blue appearance that can be so dramatic in photos, even more impressive in person when you feel the cold coming off the glacier."

#9 Argentina, Patagonia - "A piece of ME"
Initially, I was not too excited about going to such a touristy National park , the Perito Moreno National park. I shared a car with 2 Israelis girls and made our way there in the darkness of the early morming. The early start was to ensure we get into the National park way before the counter starts work at 7am and thus saving on the entrance fee ( the life of a backpacker!)
The scene took my breath away. The thunderous roar of a small piece of the glacier breaking off rocks my senses. It feels surreal and its one of those sights which I ill never forget in my life.

wow.. intersting.. learnt something new..

Hey everyone,

Just got back from Mount Rinjani. Will continue wth my photos soon.
Cheers:)

AWESOME. Hope you enjoyed the last section of the climb to the summit... and the "hot" water waterfalls :)

Post those photos too, please...

Welcome back pupuce!
You're right. The glaciers that I have seen are something which I'll never forget. Especially the sight and sound of the ice calving... :D

#1 Ushuaia, ENd of the world
Situated on the Beagle Strait, Ushuaia is the largest city in Argentine Tierra del Fuego, and arguably the southernmost city in the world.
Surrounded by gorgeous jagged mountains, I feel as if I was in a air-conditioned city..This photo is taken just outside the airport

#2 Lyubov Orlova, The Loveboat in Russian
I booked my trip to Antarctica on a whim, 3 days before this boat is set to sail. I arrived in Ushuaia on Sunday, bought and rented the neccessary wam gear and left on Wednesday for my once -in a lifetime trip to my 7th continent.
Antarctica is a land of extremes: it is the coldest and driest continent on Earth and has the highest average elevation.

#3 antarctica , First sightings of icebergs
After 2 days of Crossing Drake Pasage, which got nearly 60% of the travellers bedridden due to sea-sickness, we were very excited when we got glimpse of the icebergs. In the meantime, there are videos and lectures given by the biologists and crew members about the animals that will greet us in Antarctica.

woahhh what a beautiful picture! It looks so good! Any tips on how you took such a great shot? I'm really keen to learn as I am a beginner photographer and my pictures definitely don't look as good. How do you set your aperture and shutter speed? Thanks so much!

I felt the same as you.. was not too excited to go to a touristy national park. but when you are there, really get blown away by the sheer sight of the grand glacier!

Hey there, sounds like a great road trip you've got planned and depending on how long you are travelling for and what you planned to do whole there, $500 is a rather tight budget. But then again, try to keep some spare budget as you never know what activities you will come across which is too good to resist. Good luck
