My PowerShot S5 IS

Here is what I will get, if anyone is interested:

Camera:
The 5D update, which should be out at the end of the year. Cost would be quite high. 5D is now about $3.5k, after being out for a few years.
If that does not meet my expectations, maybe the 40D or its update (EF-S camera). 40D is now about $1.5k.

Zoom lenses:
EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM II $2.6k (EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM $1.5k, if I get a EF-S camera)
EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM $2.1k (Will not get this if I have EF-S camera)
EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM $2.9k
EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM $0.9k

1.4x Mk II Teleconverter $0.7k

Add extra batteries, a flash, a new bag, and other bits and pieces, like filters.
I have not included primes. All those tasty f1.2/f1.4 lenses would burn large holes in my wallet.

you should throw me some goodies lol.

so wait lemme try get this clear think im going down to AP to buy the accessories.

i want a lens hood, and a filter to protect my lens.
i need some things that donot have to be dismantled after shoots, meaning i want the hood to be there forever. possible?

i suddenly have an outburst of contemplation to get a DSLR and sell off my S5IS:(
i dont know man i feel that if i buy all these stuff, can it be reused if in the near future i
upgrade to dslr :(
haha. The dSLR bug bites you so fast ah? If you have this urge and have the money, then I would suggest you can start planning for it. Perhaps wait for the next round of dSLRs be it FF 5D MKII or APS-C crop 50D. There might even be a low end FF coming if the rumors can be trusted.

If you are going to get L lenses for your dSLRs and want to reuse some of the equipments from your S5IS, then you should go for the 77mm filters with step down ring and make sure you get circular polarizer instead of the linear polarizer that can only be use in S3/S5IS.

Like I have said before, the hood is quite useless. Also, you would have to remove it if you want to use other filters, like ND or polarisers. Save your money, spend it on something useful.

You can get an adapter and a UV filter, these you can leave on all the time. The camera will be a bit more bulky, so make sure it can fit in your bag with the adapter on.

For adapters, I prefer the Lensmate 58mm. The finish is the same as the camera body, and their QC is quite high. Price is the same as getting from Canon, and Lensmate is metal. You might want to ask around if anyone else wants it, then you can share shipping. You can also get the Raynox adapter, it is 52mm. That is available here, from Jim in the mass order thread. Getting good filters of this size is a bit of a problem though.

If ordering from US or Japan, use Vpost. Cheaper and pay with UOB cards got further 12% discount. Except abit slower, I use Vpost to purchase some bicycle stuffs recently.

k dude help me out, pls.

going to sim lim to get a phone this friday, SO thought wanna buy accessories for my S5 also.

I suppose up to its current largest capacity (32GB?)

I still have the BBB virus! Bought another Emoblitz flash unit (this time with E-TTL), Tokina circular polariser filter & Optech straps. Argh..! Hehehe!

wahhh you rich ar get me something la hahah.

im going simlim tomorrow. what should i get? 400bucks to spree. whee

Not rich la, those are just basic fundamental items only. If got $400 to burn, maybe can get external flash if you do not have one.

Guys, for taking photos of kids in action in house at night with fluorescent lights, what are some basic settings to use? Pictures turn out blur sometimes except if using Sports mode. \

Hi to all,

Recently juz gt an S5 and new to this forum. Hmm, gt few Qs to ask:

1 - Wondering if the 3rd party adapter will affect the view from wideangle
2 - Will it affect the stock lens when it extend to telephoto esp when there filter attached.
3 - What kind of polariser it uses? Linear or circular.
4 - Cerebrus, when u said problem getting filter of this size, do you mean by 52 or 58?

Thanks in advance for answering my queries...;)

1. Lensmate & Raynox adapters do not cause any vignetting at the widest setting. I have even stacked a UV filter and a polariser without any problem.

2. Lensmate & Raynox do not have any problems with this either. The 58mm Lensmate is a bit longer then the 52mm Raynox & Lensmate.

3. Cameras like this use linear polarisers. Circular polarisers are needed by dSLRs as their focusing mechanisms are different. I use a circular polariser.

4. 52 mm is a bit more rare.

Are you using flash? Open up your aperture (smaller f stop), this will let in more light. You can increase your ISO by one step, if you do not mind the noise.

Well, you can get quite a decent tripod at half that price. Or a good one at that price.
