Yes, you have to get the adapter tube first, then the subsequent accessories, like the filters, tele-conversion lens, WA conversion lens, etc.... Without the adapter, nothing can be attached to your S5 except the original caps that came with your purchase.

You will have to buy another type of lens cap if you fix the adapter to the camera, the original one can't be used with the adapter.

Okay, so i guess i'll buy the Canon original Canon LAH-DC20 Conversion Lens Adapter (LA-DC58E) and Hood (LH-DC40) then?

Is there any better alternatives if I strictly want these two items?

when do the converter comes into picture then?how come Canon does not endorse any converters thingy? is it essential?

Hey hey :)
Thinking of just buying a WideAngle Converter (for fun, BBB virus)

so since it's just out of pure boredom n curiousity, dun wanna spend.
Found a nice pricing one, $70
But it's the canon WC-58 (not WC-58A)
it's 0.8X mag, 58mm.
actually was meant for G2 one

asked around, people say no complains about it.
so just wanna confirm with u guys is it ok?

One question, why do you want to get the hood?

I know that the WC-DC58N (meant for the G3/5/6) seems to work fine.

One thing, the G2/3/5/6 have lenses that are completely different from the S2/3/5. So the converters meant for them might not be optimised for other cameras. Think this is why the Raynox converters are so expensive, they seem to work fine on almost any camera.

for pimping purposes hahaha

basically an upgrade on the looks department? haha
what do you recommend tho?

Pimp my camera? I have always wanted to paint WWII style nose art on my adapter, like the jaws and eyes found on fighters. :bsmilie:

To me, its a waste of $$. I would rather spend the same amount of money on a metal adapter, instead of the plastic one from Canon.

Also, it is almost impossible to design a hood that will work on a 36-430 mm lens. It might work fine at the wider end, but will not prevent any flare once you zoom in a bit.

Is it? I will test it out; how does it affect indoor photos with flash? Any more tips or quirks you all found out with this cute DSLR look-alike?

PS: Bosty, your signature is nice. ;p

With the adapter alone, you will get a shadow when you use flash. The hood will make it worse.

Honestly, I think deep down, you want to get a dSLR. For people who are so fond of adding a petal hood to S5IS to make it more dSLR-like, go get a 450D or 1000D (when it comes out here)...

i think im one of those narcissistic materialistic peepos who want to pimp it y'all.

Its all because of tight budget to own a DSLR so we improvise. lol.

ok i thought the lens hood was quite useful so i reckon its not?

i shall wait for him to post test shots. btw guys if i have 100 to 150 to spend & buff up my system

what dya recommend?

i want variety at cheap prices. dont have to be branded :D

Thinking of getting 1000D when it is out in Aug, but factoring the zoom lens high cost, & a newbie in photography, I decided to get the S5 IS first to play around and practise all the concepts of digital photography. Cost me only $370 for the camera. So if I dun like this hobby then I dun lost alot of $.

Why would 1 want to use a flower hood indoors ?

I thought is normally used out doors to cut down the sun glare ?

:dunno:
