The flash should work if pushed up. Battery drainer? Yes in alkalines and no in rechargeables. Rechargeables should be able to last at least 200 shots as alkalines suck at battery life.
For me i always shooting using the EVF unless in awkward, high and low-angle shots, then i'll use the LCD. Using EVF will extend your battery life a bit more.
Thanks. ya, I have pushed it up. But when I want to shoot, it just shows the FLASH blinking. I check the manual says something about powering up the flash. Not sure what that is.
Yes, I have so far only use AUTO mode. It shows that FLASH is needed and that's when I push the flash thing up.
Well, charging the rechargeables and hopefully it's be ok. Strangely, the alkalines are newly bought but it last only about 20 shots. strange.

Bro the term "recycling time" is normally use to describe the time the flash needs to power up after ur previous shot with flash emmited....n all flash has a recycle time....factors determining recycle time r like the state of ur batteries, the amount of power ur flash emmited during ur previous shot......do some googling n u will understand better.....

True. Build-in flash will need to be charged by the batteries of the camera before it had enough power to serve you. If the remaining power of your camera batteries are low, it may take more than 5 sec. to be fully charged. You may have fired the shot before the flash complete its charge.

bro i m no expert but i think the effective distant of the in-built flash of the S5 is only about a good 3-4m.........there r also alot of other factors like ur shutter speed, aperture opening, metering mode n iso setting.When u shoot in auto mode, the S5 will give u a setting that will put hand shakes into consideration so it might not be the optimal setting for ur shutter speed......try playing around in the manual mode and u will understand wat i mean........and street lights r actually quite dim....normally to capture a landscape night shot u will need a tripod, so that it will allow u to have a longer shutter speed opening duration.
Your metering can be fooled by backlighting and other bright objects. As the S5 IS's focusing point is quite large, metering and AF locking can be quite tricky in such conditions. Also, if u're taking night scenes, why are u using flash?? U should be mounting on tripod, use manual mode to set the desired aperture and shutter speed.

kena poison with all the hype here and eventually got hold of S5 IS last weekend.. 
got a few questions tho....
1. wondering if it is a wise decision to invest a lense adapter + filter. im not going to use it for wide or tele convertor, but purely for lense protection.
2. what is the price range for the adapter? recommend me the shop pls..
3. and what is the difference between metal and plastic adapter, other than their weight.
pls do give me advice and suggestion..

1. Definitely a wise move to have the adapter + filter on the camera all the time. My thought:
a. Less worry on the lense being damaged by accidental knocking.
b. Allow you to hold the camera in a better way for stability.
c. Allow you to use standard lense cap, which will not fall off easily as the one came with the camera.
d. Many choices of filters could be used, including the close-up filter, polarizer, etc.
....
2. You could get a third party one for less than $20. Check out "Orion" @ Sim Lim.
3. Not too sure about the plastic one (Canon), but the metal one is quite light, personally I think the metal one could be more durable, and less chance for the threads to be damaged.
Just my 2cents worth. HTH.
