CPL and ND actually serve 2 different purposes. 1 cuts polarised light (and some ambient light) and the other cuts all ambient light evenly. It really depends on what u want. I'm just using my CPL as ND cos I don't own a ND filter For more info, u can browse the forums for the usage of CPLs and NDs. Cheers!

Am having delays in my S5is since day 1, am not sure if its the settings or mem card. I changed the mem card to 150x but still the same. Much worse when using built-in flash, its like waiting for 5secs before taking the shot. Help!

i wan to cover a sch cross-country event, thinkin of snappin pics at low shutter for the action feel,will b in mornin till afternoon.
definitely need either ND or CPL...which is better?

CPL and ND are 2 different filters altogether. CPL is used to reduce reflections such as taking through glass and water and is also used to enhance colours such as the blue sky or green grass as an example.

ND is like our sunglasses is to a camera, is just to reduce the surrounding lighting and reduce shutter speed,how much is depending on whether u're using ND 2, 4, 8, etc. The greater the number reduces more surrounding lighting. ND is very useful for taking the soft silky effect of a river flow or waterfall.

Check that your timer is NOT set to 2, 10, or custom seconds. Its that button at the top right near the button u press to take the shot

@winduhs, timer is not set. its just single shot everytime. the delay comes from trying to focus??? or when flash is up re-charging the flash? this happens whether in speed or aperture priority?

hi newbie here..

I have gone through the thread ,still caught between FZ 18 and S5. The most 2 concern questions I have in mind is that S5 is using rechargeable batteries- It get charged up very slow rt ? I was told by my fren who use S3 , batteries lasted whole day. Because I ever use lit batteries x 2 in a day for lumix FX 01 ;p . Coz I am worried when I am travelling esp moving from place to place.. Can anyone tell me the life span of the battery and the charging time ? Is the process a hassle to you guys ?

The other thing is I wish the camera be able to take gd night shots with big zoom.. like to take marcro shots at times too ..so which one is better ?or any one to recommend ? I also read that FX 18 got noises at certain ISO ???? Sorry me noob in the terms still.. Wat is EVF ?? Thanks for reading

Coz I am worried when I am travelling esp moving from place to place.. Can anyone tell me the life span of the battery and the charging time ? Is the process a hassle to you guys ?

So far, I have no problems with batteries. When fully charged, they last more than a day for me. Of course, this means it may die halfway in subsequent days. Hence, I always have another fully charged set ready. The only complaint which I have is that the "battery low warning" is too short for me.

Hmm, there will be a delay if ur flash is still recharging; but u can see it cos the flash sign on the lcd/EVF will be blinking instead of constantly on. From my experience it seems the flash takes longer to charge up when ur batteries get weaker, I'm not sure if it happens for other bros here though. As for delay while trying to focus, did u set ur AF to shoot only? Try using continuous and see if there's any difference.

Hi all, i am very new to this forum and photography. I have been using PNS cameras for quite some time so now thinking to get a semi pro camera which i more or less decided S5. just waiting to for march's IT show next week.

I have some newbie question.. hopefully i can get some help here as i have to work out my budget, not a $$ a lot guy.

I intend to get the lens 'adapter +hood' set.
1) if i buy the canon original set, does it come with the lens cap?
2) comparing to the raynox products in the suppliers thread, is raynox's quality much better?
3)raynox doesnt include that "hood" in their set. is it necessary or just to make the camera look bettter? (but they include 2 filters thou)

4)What sort of filters should i get to protect the lens? will a budget one do the job? Like the two filters included in the raynox adapter set?

There are a few 3rd party lens adapters that are compatible with the s5is, eg lensmate, emolux, raynox. etc. I'm using the emolux adapter. In any case, u can always meet up with the seller and bring your cam along to try b4 buying.

I got my Lensmate adapters from their online store and the service was excellent. If you google Lensmate on other forum discussion, you will find that almost everyone is giving the thumbs up to them. Lensmate adapters are made of metal but Canon's is plastic. After using the Canon one for a while, you will notice it will start changing shape as reported by a few people. Actually Lensmate adapters are not cheap and with the shipping and handling charges, it might cost more than the local Canon LAH-DC20.

If you are ordering it from Lensmate, I would strongly suggest that you get 2 adapters (either 52mm or 55mm) depends on your converter lenses' need. I put one adapter on the camera permanently with an UV filter. This acts as a protection against knocks directly at the fragile lens so in case you drop the camera lens first, you might only need to replace the UV filter and perhaps the adapter. The other adapter stays on my WA converter so when I need to put on the WA converter, all I need to do is to switch the whole thing (with the Lensmate adapter) instead of screw and un-screw the WA converter. The action is a lot more smooth and easy when you are on the move.

Okie just sharing some of my opinions as i was caught between choosing those 2 camera when i wanted to get my first prosumer

Let me share why i chose the S5IS
-Rechagable Batteries
S5IS is able to take in rechargable batteries and normal batteries.
(In the case of a flat rechargable batt, i can conveniently purchase another alkaline battery to power up my cam)
while the fz18 uses a lithium ion, if in a case of a flat battery, you have no other access to power source to power up your camera.

-Peer Opinions
My friend told me this, how many camera users bought a Canon and how many people bought a panasonic.
Which Advertisement do you see more for Cameras?. Canon or Panasonic.

well. you make the choice

high iso will naturally produce more noise than lower iso.
imho both canon and panasonic's ISO after 400 would tend to produce evident noise.

How long to charge the AA rechargeable batteries ? Eg in this thread Sanyo envelope batteries are mentioned to be able to last whole day . But how abt the charging process- one whole day ?

S5 's movie mode can zoom while recording, correct ?
