My plan for lens purchase..need advise..

I dunno you... your preference and style - ain't mine.

If you ask mine, and with such a budget, i would rather get a used 5D for those L glasses and top up for a 16-35mm f/2.8 to 'complete' the coverage, or even forgo the said if you hardly use that range? afterall 24-70 and 70-200mm r like a pair made in heaven on FF - personally

If you still intend to align to the 7D, i would personally choose below lineup for the sake of so-called completion to 200mm

10-22mm f/3.5-4.5
17-50mm f/2.8
50-150mm f/2.8 (sigma?)

The 70-200mm on APS-C is just an awkward range personally, and, as a hobbyist, is there really a need to pay a premium for f/2.8 glasses?

i use those 2 lenses that you mentioned..

canon 10 22 and sigma 50 150...
its more than enough for me except the body.
still use the old body 450D and hv to save to buy a better body with hi iso since more pre wed photo order coming.

I'm on the same page as you about covering all focal range as much as possible, however I have additional concern which is "I want to travel light" .
Because of the 2nd factor, I purchase the following setup in this order and bring these 3 lenses when I travel abroad
1. Change 18-55mm to 24-105mm f4L (i still keep the 18-55mm and bring occasionaly if I want to shot wider whan 24mm)
2. Buy Canon 10-22mm
3. Buy Canon 70-300mm

Almost 70-80% of the time I'll use 24-105 for workaround and get descend IQ. I switch to 10-22mm or 70-300mm only for shot with different perspective.
And since I like to try something new / unique, I purchase the cheap 50mm f1.8 and Lensbaby 2.0

yeah TS. from the looks of it, u can afford to go FF. and also, 7D is also as heavy as a 5DII anyway. so might as well go FF. u dun gain anything with a 7D and all these huge L lenses. well, unless the 1.6x matters a lot to u.

if you want to extract every last bit of IQ from your lens. You have to go for the full frame sensor. Its simply captures more detail.

I dont advocate getting all the top quality L glass and wasting it all on a crop sensor...its really a waste.

Also it sounds like you have little to no experience. You're better off with 1 body and 1 lens for now...know your needs then buy as necessary.
If you can afford it go with the 7D and EFS 17-55 or the 5d2 with the 24-105mm.

The 7D is the better all-rounder camera and is feature packed...but if IQ is your only perogative then rush for the 5d2.

before my 7D purchase,i was considering between 5DMKII and 7D...
in the end i chose 7D was because mainly of its high FPS over the IQ of 5DMKII..
however,i don't rule out the possibility of getting another spare FF in future...
definitely not 1Ds series as its out of my reach...

Produced very distorted images from my 40D.
Seriously consider and test before getting.

The distortion is just fine, you just need to learn how to use it to your advantage. UWA is not easy to use without letting your photos look mediocre!

you shld give the tokina 11-16mm f2.8 some serious consideration. gave me wonderful perspective and sharp pictures. i'm not against the canon's 10-22mm, it's just that the tokina was friendlier on my 7d.

U have not gone wrong with your choice. However some of the seniors might be right. And my preference is :

Canon 7D
- 11-16 Tonika f2.8
- 24-70mm f2.8L (must have!!!)
- 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM (since you might be doing sports, should get it with Image Stablizer for handheld).
- and also a good and firm Tripod since you already invested so much.

Need good grasp of space and foreground control. Easily used and abused and sublimates to mediocrity if lack of good composition.

But nonetheless, I including many of us i suspect, will not go travelling without one!

Cos i love ultra-wide angle and is my main walk-around lens too. On a recent trip to China, my entire photo collection there was taken solely by UWA.

I will be upgrading to 7D and was planning for the future on what type of lens should i get in order not to buy and sell off and buy another one again...
iam not a professional photog,just want some decent shots with less noise and high IQ.....

my plan goes like this after getting my 7D:

1st:24-70mm F/2.8L
2nd:70-200mm F/2.8L
3rd:10-22mm F/3.5-4.5

i chose the above lens because they can cover almost every focal length up to 200mm and also i prefer lens with a constant and low F stop..too bad not in the case for my 3rd choice but i believe should be good enough..

pls advise especially those with the above set-up...thanks...

the above setup is almost perfect for a cropped body user... i intend to purchase this exact set up for my 7D too! however please be reminded that 24-70L can be really heavy for 7D and it makes the 7D body looks like a midget~! if possible i would advise you to use a better strap to "ease" the weight of the setup and also a BG to balance the weight of the whole set up...

If u take sports or wildlife photos, I would say the 7D is useful because of the FPS.

I would rather take up a 5D, how much is 7D? Around 1.5k you get second hand 5D.

24-70, 70-200 are best on FF. Of course it can be also mount on APS-S for extra reach.

Why not save up for other better lens? U could play with prime lens too!

of course these are just my recommendation.
