My Negative Experience at TK Foto Today.

I think some sale ppl in sg are that not eager enough to earn that little bit more money (or happen the sale quota met already so dun bother to do more) ...

a good sale ppl know that even if u dun buy and just play play the equipment ar, by providing good service with a smile, customer will go back to u when they eventually wants to buy it. But of course there are too many customers ar when times ar good ..

U dun need good photography knowledge to sell something, but a warm smile will help more.

I get the least respect shopping because I am always in T shirts and short. This Ah Pek just see for fun, I think that is the general thought.

I am OK with that but when I want something, I do ask to be shown. Sometimes I do encounter nasty sale person and If I just feel being nasty that day, I will insist of trying even I am not buying. Most times, I just move on and spend my money on those who want them. I am happy, they are happy.

So take it easy, they lost an opportunity and you found what you want.

Haha ... never judge a ppl by his clothing. Most towkay dress in short and slipper and shop during off peak hrs.

Sometime have to depend who attend to U at that moment too. Bought few stuffs at tk b4, and recently bought my tripod and today a lens at tk. When was at there looking at tripod, was attended by one who willing to show differences and functions of few diff models, asked what requirement and recommend few within budget.
Some just tell u the price and that the end.
And also have to see how crowded at that moment.

If you experience an unexpectedly rude salesman, he may just be trying out a variation of sales technique.
The rudeness is intentional. Reverse psychology. It works on some. It infuriates some.
They will try to remember what technique works on who, among their customers.

Every shop has its top tier red carpet regular customers, whom they will never offend.
These are perhaps the proverbial 20% that buy 80% of the shops value of products.

Then you have the normal range of average customers.

And finally the ones the shop deems as ask only and never buy. The shop sales staff refuse to entertain or respond.

Way.. I never have this prob with TK.. I always go ask do price. Recently just bought a tripod. The uncle happily shows the function and recommend. I even told him, not buying today, too many stuff on My hand. He says, okay, no worry. And continue to show me other type of ball head.
The next day, I go and find him, and say, I want the tripod. :D.

Now I don't like to make assumptions and I want to give TK Foto the benefit of the doubt that they made an honest mistake. However I can't help but feel they tried to cheat me into purchasing the older version of the lens whilst telling me it was in fact the latest version. That would have been a several thousand dollar mistake.

think he see you small kid act blur so he try to whack you. common thing lah, if got super old gear can clear at high price, some salespeople will try one. heng you at least tried the lens.

af-s and non af-s got big difference, suggest you learn more about your own camera system before you buy lenses in future.

But they have to sell according to the instructions given to them by the boss.

sometimes its quota to hit, because kenna too many low months.

Act like a pro and no one will chop u .. talk with uncertainty and all will chop u.

100% agree!

bro, you got work before as salesperson? never see any ex-colleague try that... is usually because pek chek liao take out on "customer" who kenna judged as "no hoper".

Always know what u buying before talking to any salesman, regardless of what product u buying. Not necessarily camera stuff only.

Those housing agents or car dealers or whatever salesman have to be treated the same way.

They will tell u everything u wan to hear, when selling something to u. After purchasing, they will deny everything

hi all

i am sharing out of camera topic but it is the same thing buying things at a retail store. i had this experience at city square mall, i was wearing proper and went into the upper floors whereby you can see most stores are selling beds etc.. went into this Lotus bed store and a guy approached me and i just told him i am looking around for options then later he asked if i can make decision, i replied i got to check with my wife, i was alone then, he told me next time bring your wife along and he turned back to his desk from the main door and never look back.. so i went to other bed stores and just nice i ask the sales person who this guy is, they told me that is the big boss lol.. so practical no wonder recently i went there shopping again and the store was gone, wish him good luck for his pre sales service. of course i am angry but think back nothing to angry with just carry on since there are much more bedding stores around in singapore right?

Gotta agree with this.

There were many times where I had to correct the salesperson while purchasing tech equipment, car replacement parts, watches, apparel etc.

Plus, I think there is quite a discernible difference between the two 80-400mm, so yeah. We all just gotta be more careful.

I went to TK Foto a few times, different sales person give me different experiences.

In Jan 2013, I met a young man who showed me a Nikon V1 at a promotion price @ $460 with SB-5, while the neighbour shop are selling @ $595 without SB-5. I visited the shop a few times, before I bought it. He is always very patient with me.

A few months later, I went back to the shop to look for Nikon 1 Lens, met an older person. He gave me a feeling of “Want to buy, then buy. Otherwise, don’t waste my time”.

However, I will still go back as their price as reasonable.

I think it is fair to say that there are black sheep in all retail stores or as a matter of fact... everywhere (not just Singapore). I have my share of good and bad experience with TKfoto... not going to share everything here, but I remember very distinctly one grumpy uncle standing at the tripod section of the shop are pretty rude to me when I was asking him about camera strap (I wanted an Optech). Anyway, I got my strap in Cathay Photo later that day.

However, I do have excellent service with a younger guy when I went there searching for filters. Same goes for most other shops around. When I am shopping in China during my working trips there, some of the sales persons are really helpful... others gave me the "you have no money, don't disturb me." type of look. This is the same case in Australia (Melbourne) when I was studying there more than tens years ago... I remember very well... when me and my housemate went into one of the computer shops in the suburb and wanted to buy a computer. We are there first, and trying to get the attention of the salesperson. He simply ignored us, then rushed over to another older looking Indian couple who just walked into the shop.

Well... by now, I am very used to these type of attitude from the salesman... so they don't really get into me. What I always say... do your homework and only get what you have done your homework on.

Knowing too much may not necessarily be a good thing because buying becomes a compromise.
For example, the item is only partially suitable but due to whatever limits, one still buys it.
:)

Intentional rudeness + reverse psychology has been successfully used by various people.

Bernie Madoff - pulled off a US$65 Billion con job. In a TV documentary (probably CNN or Crime&Investigation Channel) one of his victims related how he got conned. Madoff would act standoffish and behaved as though the victim was wasting his time with such a small investment; that he was unwillingly accepting only because some one had recommended the victim.

Food nazi selling crab beehoon in Geylang - Apparently it works. People think because he is so rude, his food must be good.

Chef Lee, who is known to be the "food nazi of Geylang", can be quite obnoxious, according to reviews posted on popular food site HungryGoWhere.

One of my associate consultant is always rude to clients, giving them short deadlines to respond and sending emails with capital letters, etc. I counselled him recently. But now I know I am wrong. :embrass:

So sorry to hear your bad experience. I know TK for about 8yrs and I only asked for James and Richard when I'm there or sometimes when my friend Daniel is helping there, then I dropby to kappo a bit.

As for the other staffs working there, I don't bother to waste my time with them. However I do admit that it is amusing sometimes to eavesdrop their conversations with the customers there. :D

I have been shopping at TK for years. They do not know everything as not all of them are passionate photographers like many of us. Sometimes i have to describe how some of the equipments are used. We learn from each other in our discussions and transactions. I talk to Richard and Phillip a lot. And have a very good relationshio with them. And yes, i wear slippers all the time, bad hair, T shirt, some even with holes...

They are not the nicest one (3:16 is the nicest), but many times i buy there, they never chopped me, and i like their way to put price at the display.

in contrast AL chopped me so bad, so i can only blame myself.

Sorry to say hear this happened to you TS. However just to get things straight, our salesmen in singapore are just horrible. Every single store I visit they are all very unwilling to help let alone approach you to assist. I dont care if they are having a bad day or not, its their job to know the products they are selling and assist. Worse thing I have noticed and experienced is they eyeball people as if the person has no ability to purchase the items at the store.
