My friend just bought one such IP camera for Aud $50 from Kogan.

It can work as a surveillance camera. But if the movement is very fast it may not be able to capture it.

You can install a Dlink 932L camera, which comes with night vision, incase at night where lightings are bad. to include recording, my colleague suggested to get a NAS to wirelessly record it. - D-Link Products - DCS-932L - mydlink-enabled Wireless N Day/Night Home Network Camera.

I had 3 of this at home but I don't know how to hook it up to my NAS wirelessly. Anyone can help? This cam is good auto day/night mode. Clear image on iPhone too. Only bad is the angle not wide enough for use in a room and window apps only on computer. It stop work on the programme recently but I usually watch it on iPhone, 3G data also no problem. Saw on ST 3 CCTV only $799 not sure come with free installation n streaming to Hp.
