My Kit lens 18-55F3.5-5.6 IS can't autofocus

Have this lens for about 2 years.

Just 2 months ago, Autofocus no longer work,

Troubleshoot
switch AF ON/OFF a few times,fail to resolve.
switch main ON/OFF a few times,fail to resolve.
But it start autofocus again each time the focus ring being manually turn(light turn).
Just like kick-starting motor engine. Autofocus will fail again after few second times

Switch to use another len(50mmf1.4) on the same camera body. Autofocus is normal

My Suspect:
1) Maybe this zoom lens autofocus motor is not Ok?
2) Suspect viewfinder got fungus and affect AF only for specific lens?
(don't have another different lens to try)

3) Anything else that could affect this problem?

Like to hear more opinion.

It is a cheap lens but would like to use it.

Repair by Canon , worth while?

buy a new one. coz reparing cost about $120. its time to upgrade too, get a tamron 17-50f2.8 or better lenses.

It could be flexible cable problem. Quite common for this lens

It could be a dirty contacts between the lens and camera.

if under warranty ...is ok for you sent it for repair.
sometime canon take responbility to exchange 1 to 1

mine also face the same problem, send in to CSC for repair.
About two week before the warranty end.
So my advise is do a check before the warranty end as mine also seldom use until one day take out from my dry cabinet and found it does not foucs.

now i left this lens aside and use my 50mm 1.8 for general purpose.

The cable to the AF motor inside the lens has snapped. Very common issue for this lens.

Went HK a few days ago.
One of the people in the tour group's 18-55 also stopped auto focusing.
But his was worse. Mannual focus ring also stuck, can't turn.

Thanks for the advise.
Maybe it is lowest cost lens.
Design only for shorten usage.
Durability not the ultimate criteria,
so it must fail earlier as low-end kits lens.
Then user will buy better lens.

Thinking of getting 17-55f2.8, and mostly
likely to sell away 50f1.4.
