My K3 Experience

Try the relatively new shop beside SLR Revo..they quoted me 14xx 2 weeks ago..not sure of the current price tho...;)

Thinking of getting it soon... Is just too difficult.. to.. resist.. Thanks!

...Finally pulled the trigger! :)

I was quoted $15xx but I indicated that it could be bought at $14xx and I got that price. :)

Yes its happened to me b4 when k5iis quoted 17xx but i told them now got offering 15xx....after checking they apologized to me and give me a really good price. :-) cheers and congrats bro.

Ok after just using the K3 to shoot photos of the K-01 I'm selling, I'm happy about many things. I suppose some unhappiness may come later but I think not:

1) Live View is improved over the K5 for sure.

2) AF, I'm never one who cares much about AF but.. I just went to the opposite room with the lights off armed with the 50mm F/1.4 and it focused on the table edge decisively and quickly (using AF assist lamp of course). Amazing.. Though I don't really shoot black cats in the dark, so not that important to me.

3) They fixed the silly hold OK button to switch between select AF and WB/timer/etc settings! Now I just need to press one button and it's settled. Score one for usability.

4) A lot more controls that are accessible quickly even when looking thru VF. I'm not an event shooter and I shoot like an old man.. But I can see how these would be useful.

5) Dual SD card shots to satisfy the Kiasu Singaporean in me! Woohoo!

6) Multiexposure mode is now in timer function! Great! Gone are the days where I have to dive into the menus just to do consecutive multiple exposures during changing light to extend exposure.

7) Someone mentioned earlier that bracketing is limited? Not true. You just press down from there and you still can do 5 bracketed images, 2 EV in between? Or did I remember wrongly.

8) IQ is improved over K5 for sure. I'd say about 1 stop gained for high ISO. Not important to me once again..

Happy with the buy, and it's true, this is the best camera that Pentax has ever made yet.

Congrats bro for the new camera. Glad to see you joined the elite K3 team :D

Nice first impression too. I'm sure we'd see some fantastic photos from you with the new camera soon.

Cheers and happy shooting.

Waiting for the weather to improve.. In the meantime, I have a lot of Dubai backlog to work on. :bsmilie:

Hi guys, is the shop that will price match OP? Saw someone buying a K3 this afternoon at OP at around 3+. Could be edutilos. First time buying from OP today, super price for my GR limited ed. Need to keep them in mind for future purchases

Yep, that would be me. :)

OP is a very good shop. I like to buy from them. :)

One more point that I may have either missed out on, or no one has noticed: The K3 allows you to stack a lot more than 9 exposures. Technically speaking you could set 1000 stacked images (or even more).. But I don't know who would do that just to scrimp on buying a ND1000 ND filter..

haha! but definitely useful for occasions when you forgot to bring the filters out :)

Or don't bring out a complete set.. I usually use 8 exposures in place of a 3 stop filter...

Shooting K3 at Inner Mongolia this week, temperature is around -20degree. No problem at all Everything functions as normal.

This is really interesting . How many hoew many ? Can stack how many

Can someone (everyone) give some impressions/comments/samples to bump FW's review in the review section?
We seem to have got one heck of a camera, but Pentaxians are always so shy about speaking out loud about it.
(and that thread has less hits than some fancy camera strap... sadly)

my few cents.

I'll do a comprehensive review soon after I manage to process some shots I took. Though actually IQ at web size ain't that different from K5. It's web size after all. What the K3 really improves on is the user experience. It makes shooting such a breeze.. And so much more enjoyable..

I'm wondering if I should start a separate review too. If you look at the Haida filter thread, and put yourself in the shoes of someone trying to find out more, the numerous comments between the individual reviews make it really difficult to find them..

Just one more point I noticed - the levelling sensor is working very well. The one in my K5 is off for sure..

Simon - technically speaking, 2000. That's the number that you can set. If you try 2001 it goes back to 1XXX. But I'm not going to try it. :bsmilie: I did a 20 shot stack this morning and it worked fine. The only gripe I have is that you have to count the exposures or watch the space available in your SD card go down.. Which is fine for 9 or 10 shots.. But imagine if you're trying to stack 99 for whatever reason.

The DR of K3 must be as impressive as K5 for edutilos to get his hands on it.
