My K3 Experience

Back to K3, I do think we have one of the best prices globally right now, we can get it in shops for $14xx. For such a fantastic camera, it's really a great price.

They dropped the price slightly?

Before I went Dubai it was $15XX.

Yes.
I heard it from another Pentaxian who got it last week its a bit cheaper now.
Thats great news and good that they are keeping the price competitive against the competition.

A few guys got it for $14xx and showed them off during the past monthly outing a week ago :)

Wa... Ok, need to call more shops. :bsmilie: Always itchy.

Yar, I think it's more applicable to the occasions where you need to recover the shadow details from a single shot that can't be replicated.

Beyond that, 13 vs 14 EV, both ranges are excellent in all honesty. :) Most blending workflows would not be changed by a 1 stop diff.

That's true. Would've been cool if they added in ISO80, although I seldom used it w/ my K5/K5IIs ('cause I couldn't tell the difference between ISO100 and 80).

Just to share that k3 make my birding experience unbelievable, Guess how much crop did i cropped in

Just a feedback on the K3 during cold weathers. Esp around -3 & -5degC. It does seems like the camera will 'freeze' and pressing any buttons will not fix it. Only by removing of the battery and putting it back will the camera comes back alive.

This happened quite a number of times when I was travelling from Bosnia and to Croatia. It was snowing at some areas. I am using 2 original batteries and a 32GB Sandisk Extreme Pro SDcard. It should have been functional since it is advertised to withstand till -10degC.

Is it the cold weather issue?

-3 and -5 degrees is actually not very extreme. I've shot with even a K100D in such conditions before with no issue with camera, actually. Of course I didn't do anything extreme with it, it was just in hand or on tripod.

happen to me b4... but only @ 1deg, can't remeber which pentax model... long time ago... same thing, remove batt fix the freeze...another way is to off the auto off the metering.... camera always meters... drain batt though...

the camera probably is design for cold. but i don't think its tested at cold since cold test is extremely expensive... so maybe you have a outlier...

Yar, I know of many people who bring their P&S cameras on tour to cold countries in winter, all come back with many photos..

Don't think it's a common problem. How long before the problem developed, and did you get it wet - also, what lens was being used?

I was using the DA*16-50. I did bring the 12-24 but seldom use it as it was a hassle to change lens when the environment is not good to do that. Not sure if the lens is the cause.

Anyway I can see the LCD 'freeze' and can see the last image. The camera did not get wet just cold. It only happens when I am outdoors for 1-2hrs in that freezing temperature.

Odd. Maybe you can see if the problem arises again, then document it and feedback to Ricoh.

Lake District in winter was definitely around those temperatures and I don't recall any issues with my ol' K20D then.. :)

The shops I checked with this week all quoted me $15XX (including Cathay, Orient, MSC) for the K-3.
Can anyone share which shop selling at $14XX.
Many tks
